Highland Awakening by Jennifer Haymore

Highland Awakening by Jennifer Haymore

This is book 2 in the Highland Knights series, but it also connects to the House of Trent series.

Lady Esme Hawkins has many secrets, including the fact that she writes racy romance novels. Trying to get information for her newest novel, she visits a notorious bordello where she meets Camden McLeod.

Camden, a Highland Knight, was on a job protecting another, when he meets Esme. Instantly intrigued, he can't help but kiss her.  When he learns that Esme is actually the sister of the Duke of Trent, he knows that he must change some aspects of his current life. He also needs to get rid of Esme's pesky fiancee.

Can Camden get Esme to see that they are meant for each other before she marries another?

I've been waiting for Esme's story for a long time and Haymore did not disappoint!! I also loved that she tied one of my favorite series (House of Trent) in with the Highland Knights series. It was like visiting with old friends.

I really liked that once Camden decided what he wanted, he went after it. He didn't always do it in the right way, which almost cost him Esme, but I love his determination to have her in his life.

I loved seeing this other side to Esme. We knew that there was more to her than what we had seen in the other House of Trent books, so it was nice to 'meet' the real Esme!

I'm excited to to read the next book in the Highland Knights series, Highland Temptation, which stars Colin Stirling. It comes out in August, 2016.

To Lure a Proper Lady by Ashlyn Macnamara

To Lure a Proper Lady by Ashlyn Macnamara

This is book 1 in the Duke-Defying Daughters series.

Lady Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Wilde and her sister are once again called to their father's deathbed, but this time they find that he might actually be as sick as he claims. Lizzie believes that someone might be poisoning him and seeks out a Bow Street Runner to investigate. She didn't know she would encounter the likes of Dysart.

Dysart distain all things to do with the aristocracy, but when he learns that someone might be poisoning a duke, she accepts the case. Posing as a member of the gentry, Dysart joins the Wilde's house party to narrow down the suspect list. Needing no distractions during the case, Dysart finds himself losing focus whenever Lizzie is near him.

Dysart knows that he is all wrong for Lizzie, but they can't seem to help but be drawn together. Can they find the person that is poisoning the duke and find their happily ever after?

I loved this story! It is one of my favorite troupes where you have a love story that has a mystery that needed to be solved and in the process the H/H were brought together and fell in love.

I really liked Dysart. As a Bow Street Runner, he has a certain persona. But when he needed to be perceived as someone else, he was able to flawlessly make that transition and make it believable. One minute he would sound like he was from White Chapel and the next from the highest rankings of society.

Lizzie was one of those rare woman in society that has taken charge of her life and the family around her. Her mother has passed and her father is almost always bedridden, so as the oldest, she has had to step up and run the household. She feels it is her job to protect the family and do what is right for it even though it might not be right for her...

I loved the interactions between Lizzie and Dysart! The bantering between the two of them, as well as the chemistry between the two, is what really made the story for me.

I can't wait to read about Lizzie's sisters and see what Macnamara has in store for them!

The Perfect Fiancé by Bianca Blythe

The Perfect Fiancé by Bianca Blythe

This is book 0.5 in the Matchmaking for Wallflowers series.

Rosamund Amberley has been very successful in her matchmaking attempts and her latest is to match her sister, Fiona, with Marcus Worthing, the Earl of Somerville. But what she soon learns is that she can't stop thinking about Marcus...

What is a girl to do when the man she thought was perfect for her sister, turns out to be her perfect match?

This was a cute, short read. I liked both Rosamund and Marcus and thought they were well matched.

Having already read Fiona's story, How to Capture a Duke, it surprised me that it took me halfway through the book to figure out the connection... I thought this Fiona acted a lot different than in her own book.

I'm looking forward to book 2 in the series, A Marquess for Convience, which comes out in May.

To Win a Lady's Heart by Ingrid Hahn

To Win a Lady's Heart by Ingrid Hahn

This is book 1 in the Landon Sisters series.

Years ago, John Merrick, the Earl of Corabeau, wanted to court Lady Grace Landon. She turned him down knowing that it would soon be revealed that her father had financially ruined her family and she didn't want her scandal to effect him. But that all changes when they are caught together in a storeroom during a house party. John immediately tells the others that they are engaged.

Unfortunately, Grace's situation isn't any better than it was all those years ago and she is determined to get John to break the betrothal. But John is not about to walk away from Grace a second time when he never stopped loving her.

Can John convince Grace that there love for each other is more important than what society is saying about them?

I really liked this story! Grace held out against John much longer than I would have been able to, LOL! Even though he was a little different (he didn't like to be in big crowds), I loved that when he was with just Grace he was able to open himself up and be the man that he wanted to be with her.

I honestly felt bad for Grace. After what her father died, she really didn't want what happened to her to happen to anyone else. Therefor she turned down John when he asked to court her. Because she didn't discuss all of this with John, she lost so much time with him. When she tries to get out of the betrothal with John,  it felt to me like she didn't feel like she deserve to be happy. John sure had a lot of work to do to win her over!!

I really enjoyed Grace's sisters and can't wait to read their stories!

This is book 2 in the Magnificent Malverns series.

Going back to her childhood home does bring some perks in the form of her childhood friends, but it also brings heartache when she met face the man she never stopped loving.

What happens when these former lovers come face to face again?

LOVED this story!! I love reunion stories and this was no exception! For a lot of the story, we see Rob and Georgie trying to deny to themselves that their feelings for one another have never left. But once they give in to their feelings once again, oh boy!!

I loved seeing Rob's grandmother (Mum) again, she is just so full of mischief. I'm hoping that we get stories for all the Malvern cousins!!

The Wayward One by Danelle Harmon

The Wayward One by Danelle Harmon

This is book 5 in the de Montfort Brothers series.

Irish Captain Ruaidri O'Devir is on a mission to get a new explosive and deliver it to John Adams to help in the war effort against England. Planning to abduct the inventor of the explosive, Ruaidri finds the inventor's sister almost thrown in his path and decides to take her instead. What better way to get the man to deliver the goods to him than to have him exchanged the merchandise for his beloved sister? He didn't count on falling in love with her...

Lady Nerissa de Montforte has lived a sheltered life under the careful watch of her protective older brothers. After the initial shock of being held captive, she finds that her journey is more of an adventure than anything else. Knowing that her brothers will eventually come after her, she decides to enjoy her time away from the ballrooms of London. Having been nursing a broken heart, she never imagined that another would make her heart beat faster. Knowing that Ruaidri is all wrong her her doesn't stop her from falling in love with him.

Can the Irish captain and the English lady overcome the many obstacles in front of them to find an everlasting love?

I absolutely loved this story!!! While this is the 5th book in the Montfort Brothers series, you will see many characters from Harmon's Heroes of the Sea series too. I have read all of the books in both series, but it was so long ago that I don't remember any of them... but having said that, after reading this one, I want to go back and read all the books in both series (now to find the time to do it)!

Ruaidri...where to start with him? Talk about a hero you want to take home with you, that would be Ruaidri! You have a man that survived being pressed in the English Navy, escaped and was able to make a name for himself. He was thought so highly by John Adams that he sent him on this important mission! He is almost too good to be true!

I really like Nerissa too. After grouping up with so many older brothers, she knows how to handle being around a ship load of men. Other women of her station would have been freaking out if they were put into a situation like this. She ended up making the best of the situation and finding a love that she had given up on.

Even though it took many years to get Nerissa's story, it was well worth the wait.  I'm hoping that Harmon has another series in the works that is just as good as her other two!! Regardless of what she does, I'm excited to see what she comes up with next!

Trifling Favors by Heather Hiestand

Trifling Favors by Heather Hiestand

This is book 7 in the Redcakes series.

Greggory Redcake would love for his home life to be as well organized as his workplace. Everything at work runs smoothly because of his assistant manager, Betsy Popham. But that doesn't last long when someone is murdered at the tea shop.

Betsy thinks that the murder has to do with something from her past and when it appears that she is in danger, Greggory offers his home for Betsy and her father to move in to.

Now that Betsy and Greggory not only work together but live together, the feelings that both of the have kept hidden are suddenly to strong to ignore. Can they find the murderer as well of figure out where their feelings might take them?

I've enjoyed reading about the Redcakes and this story is no exception. I was hoping that Betsy would get her HEA when I met her earlier in the series, so I was excited to see this was her story.

I loved that Hiestand added a "who done it" aspect with this story. That element brought more drama to the story as well as propelling the love story forward.

I'm not certain if Hiestand is continuing with the Redcakes, but I sure hope she does!! I'm looking forward to reading whatever she comes up with next!

When a Laird Loves a Lady by Julie Johnstone

This is book 1 in the Highlander Voves:  Entangled Hearts series.

Marion de Lacy's father is marrying her off to an evil baron to gain access to soldiers. She isn't about to do what her father demands, so she has made plans to run off to Scotland and seek help from her mother's clan.  She didn't count on the King stepping in and changing her plans.

Iain MacLeod has been ordered by the king to marry Marion. The king has uncovered a plot to overturn his rule and if Marion marries Iain he has a better chance of stopping the rebellion. Having loved and lost his first wife, Iain tells Marion that he will never love her. Knowing her only other option is to marry a man she despises, Marion agrees to marry Iain.

Can this marriage of convience bloom into one of love?

I really enjoyed this story. I always love when the heroine is strong willed and a little out of the ordinary. Marion is definitely strong willed and has learned to protect herself with the help of a friend. This is definitely not your typical society miss.

I liked Iain too.  He was a hardened warrior, but he also had his soft side which came out when he was dealing with Marion.

This is my first novel by Johnstone, although I've been wanting to read her stuff for awhile now. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

The Princess Wore Plaid by Karen Hawkins

The Princess Wore Plaid by Karen Hawkins

This is book 2.5 in the Orenburg Princes series.

When royal princess, Tatiana Romanovin's carriage is held up by ruffians, she becomes disorientated and is separated from her group. When she finally finds help, she has no way of identifying herself and must find a way to support herself until she con contact her cousin. A sympathetic innkeeper and his wife take her in and she works off her room and board.

Lord Buchan was left a broken man after the war and he only ventures out once a week to have a meal at the local inn. When he meets Tatiana he is instantly intrigued and knows there is something more to her than meets the eye. He soon finds that he can't stop thinking about the comely maid.

What happens when Buchan learns that the woman he is smitten with, truly is a princess?

I enjoyed this story, but not as much as the rest of the series. My guess is because of it's length. It just didn't draw me into it like, Hawkin's stories normally do.  Usually when I read her stories, I don't want to put the book down until I'm done. This one just didn't hold my attention like the others.

If you are looking for a quick, enjoyable read, then this is the book for you.

I am looking forward to the next book in the series, Mad for the Plaid, which stars Nik!!

The Fearless Highlander by Amy Jarecki

This is book 2 in the Highlander Defender series.

When Charlotte Hill sees Hugh MacIain for the first time, he is brought to the infirmary almost dead. Knowing that the fort's doctor won't do anything to help Hugh, Charlotte sneaks in after he leaves to nurse the highlander. She never expected to feel such an attraction for a stranger.

Hugh is instantly attracted to the woman tending him, but when he learns that she is the commanding officer's daughter, he knows that nothing can come of it. After he escapes, he can't stop thinking about Charlotte and decides that she worth fighting for.

Can this Highlander win over the Englishwoman's heart?

I enjoyed this story! Who don't love a brawny highlander trying to win a ladies heart? Not I, that is for sure!

I really liked Charlotte and Hugh. They knew that they would encounter problems if they chose to be together, but decided that their love was worth the price that they would have to pay. With Hugh being a Jacobite and Charlotte being the daughter of a high ranking English officer, there were plenty of obstacles in their way to that HEA.

I'm looking forward to Jarecki's next book in the series, The Valiant Highlander.

This is book 2 in the Scandalous Sisters series.

Tommy Halifax fled England 7 years ago when Eliza Trueheart broke his heart. Returning now only to visit is family and to be knighted for his service to the crown, he knows it is inevitable that he will run into her.

Eliza feels horrible for what she did to Tommy all those years ago and has been living a life with virtually no fun at all to atone for what she did.

When they have an intimate encounter that changes everything, how will the two of them get past their past?

I really enjoyed this story. Having met Eliza in The Beautiful One, I knew that her history would effect how she found love. As a teen, she was a spoiled rotten girl, which is what lead to her breaking Tommy's heart all those years ago.

With this story, we have seen that Eliza has grown up and is actually a widow having been married an older gentleman. She has turned her life around and is not longer the girl that is only out for a good time.

It takes Tommy some time to realize that Eliza has changed. He she sides of her that he had not seen before, but it is hard for him to believe after hating her for so long.

There were several secondary characters that I hope get their own story.  I'm looking forward to seeing what Greenwood has in store for us next!

The Infamous Heir by Elizabeth Michels

The Infamous Heir by Elizabeth Michels

This is book 1 in the Spare Heirs series.

Lady Roselyn Grey has a plan for how the rest of her life will play out and it certainly doesn't included her fiancee getting killed before they can even announce the betrothal! Believing the her fiancee's brother murdered him, she heads to London to try and forget what has happened. Unfortunately at every turn, she runs into the rotten murderer.

Ethan Moore is determined to find out who killed his brother, because he is certain it wasn't an accident which is what the ton believes. He soon realizes that Roselyn is in danger because of what she might have seen that day.

Can Ethan find the murderer and keep Roselyn safe in the process?

I really liked this story, but I have to say that Roselyn wasn't very likable at the beginning. It took until about halfway through the story for me to start liking her.

I did really LOVE Ethan and the members of the Spare Heirs club! We got to meet all the future heroes of the upcoming books in the series and hints as to who their better half will end up being :).

I always love a book mystery woven into my romances and I loved what Michels did with this one.  It was an unlikely person, although I will say that it didn't take me long to figure out who it had to be.

I am really looking forward to reading more in this series, unfortunately I couldn't find when the next book would be out. I guess only time will tell us!

A Reckless Desire by Isabella Bradford

A Reckless Desire by Isabella Bradford

This is book 3 in the Breconridge Brothers series.

Taking on a bet from his rakehell friend, Lord Rivers Fitzroy is determined to make a star of Lucia di Rossi. Scorned by her family for not being a graceful dancer, al Lucia has ever wanted was to be a star actress.

Determined to make the most of this wager, Lucia makes sure that Rivers understands that she won't be his mistress. She is only interested in making the most of her craft.

But when Rivers and Lucia end up spending weeks together in a secluded home, they can't seen to fight the attraction that sizzles between them.  Can Rivers make a star of Lucia before she succumbs to his charms?

I loved this book!! I loved Rivers and loved watching him fall for Lucia. He was no where ready to get married, but at their first meeting he knew there was something special about her.

I also loved watching them work together to perfect Lucia's craft. She truly had no idea how good she really was. But as she grew more confident in her craft, she grew more confident in herself.

I will say that I didn't really like part of the ending that has to do with the Duke...I didn't really care for the man!!

I really liked the Breconridge brothers and am sad that the series is over. I am however excited to see what Bradford has in store for us next!!
