Trifling Favors by Heather Hiestand

Trifling Favors by Heather Hiestand

This is book 7 in the Redcakes series.

Greggory Redcake would love for his home life to be as well organized as his workplace. Everything at work runs smoothly because of his assistant manager, Betsy Popham. But that doesn't last long when someone is murdered at the tea shop.

Betsy thinks that the murder has to do with something from her past and when it appears that she is in danger, Greggory offers his home for Betsy and her father to move in to.

Now that Betsy and Greggory not only work together but live together, the feelings that both of the have kept hidden are suddenly to strong to ignore. Can they find the murderer as well of figure out where their feelings might take them?

I've enjoyed reading about the Redcakes and this story is no exception. I was hoping that Betsy would get her HEA when I met her earlier in the series, so I was excited to see this was her story.

I loved that Hiestand added a "who done it" aspect with this story. That element brought more drama to the story as well as propelling the love story forward.

I'm not certain if Hiestand is continuing with the Redcakes, but I sure hope she does!! I'm looking forward to reading whatever she comes up with next!

Wedding Matilda by Heather Hiestand

Wedding Matilda by Heather Hiestand

This is book 6 in the Redcakes series.

Working for the Radcakes is the only life that Ewan Hales has known. Just as he is about to get a big promotion,  Ewan finds out that he is heir to the Earl of Fitzwalter. Just as he is about to turn in her resignation, he encounters Matilda Redcake. Having always been a working class man, he wasn't good enough for her. But now that he is heir to an earldom, he might just have a chance.

Having come to London seeking answers about a bad batch of cakes, Matilda is surprised to see Ewan a little out of sorts (finding out you are someone's heir after being alone for most of your life, will do that do you!). Trying to find a solution to their cake problem, they find themselves falling for each other.

Will it all fall apart when Matilda finds her son has been kidnapped?

I liked this story. We have the romance between Ewan and Matilda as well as the mystery of who kidnapped Matilda's son. The pace is pretty quick and kept me eagerly reading to the very end. It was also nice to see some of the characters from the previous books and learn where their lives have taken them.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series which stars Matilda's cousin, Greggory.

Christmas Delights by Heather Hiestand

Christmas Delights by Heather Hiestand

This is book 5 in the Redcakes series.

Lady Victoria Allen-Hill never imagined that she would be a widow and a virgin. Looking to have a passionate affair before her father makes her re-marry, Victoria thinks that inventor Lewis Noble would be the perfect one to divest her of her unwanted status.

Lewis knows that Victoria must marry again and he is not willing to bend to her father's dictate that the man she marries relocate and run his business. But Victoria has caught his eye and he isn't about to turn down her offer of coming to his bed.

But what does it mean when he becomes jealous every time a potential suitor vies for Victoria's hand?

I enjoyed this story. It's not often that you find a widow that is in need of divesting herself of her virginity. It also wasn't your typical ton romance and that made it all the more interesting to me.

It's always fun to see what the Redcake family is up to and this holiday store will not disappoint you.

His Wicked Smile by Heather Hiestand - Book Tour and Giveaway

His Wicked Smile by Heather Hiestand.

This is book 3 in the Redcakes series.

Having spent a passion filled night with the widowed Ann Haldene, Gaiwain Redcake goes about his business and returns to London. Unfortunately, he can't seem to get Ann out of his mind. Not only was she able to help with the pain of his wounds, but she gave him a night of passion that he can't seem to forget.

Returning to the establishment that Ann owns, Gaiwain learns that she is pregnant and has gone to London in search of him.  Finally connecting with her in London, Gaiwain insists that they marry. Ann is shocked at his proposal. If she was to marry again, she wanted to do it for love. She feels that Gaiwain is only marrying her to give their child his name.

Can they take what was a one-night stand and make it a marriage filled with love?

Having not read the other stories in the series, I was a bit confused with who everyone was at the beginning of the story. It took me a couple of chapters to keep the names straight in my mind and what their relationships where to each other. I would definitely read the other books in the series before reading this one to avoid the confusion.

This story is a little later in time than most of the books that I read (Regency and earlier), so it was a nice change in pace.  It was interesting to me to see a family that was tied to a bakery as I am a huge Cake Boss fan.  That part of the story intrigued me enough to want to read the other stories in the series as they appear to have more of their story take place within the bakery.

You don't often see other ethnicities in historical romances, so it made the heroine stand out to me. She was descended from Indian royalty but was living the life of a commoner. Her cultural background added something different to the story. The author was not shy about mentioning the discrimination that she would have received during that time making the story all that more authentic.

This is definitely one for the keeper shelf!
