Miss Featherton's Christmas Prince by Ella Quinn

Miss Featherton's Christmas Prince by Ella Quinn

This is book 8 in the Marriage Game series.

After falling in love twice and having her heart broken, Meg Featherton is determined to marry a man who does not engage her heart. Having set her eyes on such a man, she sets out to find if they would suit. But she has another mission that occupies her time as well. She believes that a scoundrel is determined to win the hand of her best friend. She must see if he is worthy of her. What she doesn't know is that scoundrel is after her!

Damon, Marquis of Hawksworth, has determined that Meg will be his bride. He can't figure out why she seems immune to his charms. Determined to bring her to the altar, he does everything he can to convince her that he is not the man that everyone thinks he is.

Can Damon convince Meg that he is worth risking her heart again?

This is probably my favorite of Quinn's stories and I'm sad to say it is the last in the series.

I liked that we see a whole transformation of Damon throughout the story. He comes back from war and is bored because his father won't give him any responsibilities of the dukedom. Everyone ends up thinking he is a scoundrel. But while trying to woo Meg, he decides that she needs to know the real him and we see that he is a totally different person than the one we have been led to believe.

Meg is ready to give up on love. But she soon learns that if the right guy comes along it might be worth letting him into her heart. She realizes that she didn't really know her previous fiancee's, all she saw was what they wanted her to see. Which ended up not being who they truly were. This time she was able to learn about the real man behind the persona he showed the rest of the world and fell in love with him.

Of course we have an enjoyable appearance by our elder matchmaking ladies...another one in the books for them!!

Quinn is starting a new series starting in March of 2016!

Lady Beresford's Lover by Ella Quinn

Lady Beresford's Lover by Ella Quinn

This is book 7 in the Marriage Game series.

Even though he wants to fall in love, Rupert, the Earl of Stanstead has decided to avoid entanglements for the time being. Having had his heart broken one too many times, enough is enough. But then Vivian comes in to his life and all bets are off.

After being verbally abused and told that she was unattractive and deformed by her first husband, Vivian, Countess of Beresford, can't imagine that anyone would find her attractive. After an encounter with Rupert at a masquerade party, Vivian decides to have an affair with him. Always in her masquerade costume when they meet, Vivian doesn't think that Rupert knows who she is.

Can they find the passion they have in the nights to start a real life together that doesn't include hidden identities?

This is probably my favorite of the Marriage Game series. We've seen Rupert throughout the series and I had hoped that he would find his HEA.

I was an interesting twist that Vivian thought that Rupert was courting her during the day and seducing Cleopatra by night. It allowed Vivian to come out of her shell in a way that wouldn't have happened had they just been courting as herself during the day and at society functions.

As with others in the series, we have a secondary love story between the new Lord Beresford and Vivian's friend Sylvia. I loved reading their story just as much as Rupert and Vivian's.

A Kiss for Lady Mary by Ella Quinn

A Kiss for Lady Mary by Ella Quinn

This is book 7 in the Marriage Game series.

Lady Mary Tolliver has been hounded by her cousin ever since her parents had passed away. Knowing that he was only after her money, she is determined to stay out of his parson's trap. Having been nearly caught once again, Mary gives into her family's scheme to keep her save.  She doesn't know if she can pull of being mistress of an estate where everyone thinks she is married to the owner.

When Christopher "Kit" Featherton finds out that someone is impersonating a wife he doesn't have, he is determined to set the woman in her place. Finding the one woman who he has ever contemplated marrying in his home, he decides to see how things progress.

Can't they convince everyone that they really are married? What happens when Kit decides that he wants a marriage in truth?

Those of you that have read my other reviews of books by Ella Quinn, know that I have a love/hate relationship with her writing. I generally enjoy the stories, but something about her writing just turns me off. I didn't get that with this book. I got a little frustrated with the characters at times (seriously, just kiss each other!!!), but that happens with most love stories you read.

I did thoroughly love the two matchmakers in this story!! I love that they concocted this idea to bring their two family members together. I also felt like I got a 3 for 1 with this story as there were two side romances along the way.

I look forward to Quinn's next book in the series, which comes out in July.

Madeleine's Christmas Wish by Ella Quinn

Madeleine's Christmas Wish by Ella Quinn
This is book 5.5 in the Marriage Game series.
Madeleine would do anything for her family, so when the government wants to take her little sister to work as a spy in a brothel she steps in to take her place.  Resigned with her fate, she hope to find some help in Paris before she is sent to England.

Georges, the Marquis Cruzy-le-Châtel, has been working as a spy in England for years. When he hears that Madeleine is in danger, he intercepts her as soon as she is off the boat. Having once been betrothed to Madeleine, he feels the need to protect her.

Madeleine is determined to get back to France and her family but the only way she will be safe is to travel with Georges. She agrees to a marriage in name only and plans to have her marriage annuls when arriving home.

Georges isn't about to let the woman he loves annul their marriage and sets out to woo her on their voyage home. Will he be able to change her mind and have a real marriage with the love of his life?

This was a nice short read. Unfortunately the writing seemed to be off to me. I don't know if Quinn was trying to convey the speech pattern of someone whose native tongue was not English, but it fell short to me. Having worked with children whose second language is English for many years, it just didn't feel authentic to me. But having said that, it was still an enjoyable, quick red.

Enticing Miss Eugenie Villaret by Ella Quinn

Enticing Miss Eugenie Villaret by Ella Quinn.

This is book 5 in the Marriage Game series.

William, Viscount Wivenly, flees the marriage minded mamas in London only to find himself entangled in other problems when he reaches the West Indies. Having come to the Indies to ascertain the truth regarding his late uncle's business, William finds himself entranced by a "widow" he has a chance encounter with.

William soon learns that the woman he was attracted to is the step daughter of his late uncle and she wants nothing to do with him.  Miss Eugenie Villaret wants to marry for love and she sure is not going to be some plaything for the visiting viscount.

What will happen when William and Eugenie find that they have to be married? Will Eugenie go through with it even when she won't have the marriage she has always dreamed of?

I liked this story. It's nice to read a story in this time period that doesn't occur in London.  Having been to the islands, I loved reading a story set there.

I've kinda had a love-hate relationship with this author. I've loved the story lines, but not so much the writing.  I think this is one of her better books.  I did think that the secondary romancing couple was a bit far fetched (fell in love way too quickly!), but I really did enjoy the story.

It was nice to see the other H/H and catch up with their lives.

Desiring Lady Caro by Ella Quinn

Desiring Lady Caro by Ella Quinn.

This is book 4 in the Marriage Game series.

Gervais, the Earl of Huntley, is not ready to fall into the parson's mousetrap that all of his friends seem to be falling into. He flees England for a tour of Europe. He ends his tour in Venice to have a stay with his Aunt, Lady Horatia.

Lady Caroline Martindale has fled England and has spent the last several years living with her godmother. When Huntley arrives at Lady Horatia's home, Caroline is not prepared to be in such close proximity to a man and does everything in her power to stay away from him.

Unfortunately, Caroline has an unwanted suitor. Caroline, Huntley and Horatia are forced to flee.  What will Caroline do when she is forced to travel alone with Huntley?

Ella Quinn has not gotten great reviews from me in the past. I've felt that her writing lacked some of the polish that a lot of my current favorites have.  Having said that, I think that this novel shows growth in her writing.  The beginning of the novel had me doubting the fact that I picked up another one of her books, but the second half redeemed it.

I've always enjoyed the story lines of Quinn's novels and this was no exception. We've met Huntley in previous novels and I always enjoy when those secondary characters I love get their own story.  He figures out early on why Caroline doesn't like men and does everything in his power to not be like the other men she has encountered.  Huntley is one of those men you hope to meet in real life!!

Caroline has basically decided that she will never marry after the incident in England and is amazed by the way that Huntley treats her. She is afraid to let down her guard, thinking that as soon as she does Huntley's true colors will come out. Huntley is the perfect match for her and seeing their romance blossom was sheer pleasure.

The Temptation of Lady Serena by Ella Quinn.

The Temptation of Lady Serena by Ella Quinn.

This is book 3 in The Marriage Game series.

Lady Serena Weir must go to London for her first Season. Her brother has finally returned home and has a new bride.  Having lived a quiet life in the Scottish Borderlands, Serena is a little out of her depth. Luckily, she has her aunt and cousin to guide her along.

Robert, Viscount Beaumont, is determined not to marry for love after a disastrous first love.  Unfortunately for him, he is captivated by Serena at first glance and she will only marry for love.

Knowing this, Robert compromises Serena forcing her to accept his suit. What he doesn't know is that their friends and family will side with Serena to get him to see the error of his ways.

Can Robert get Serena to marry him without his love or will Serena convience Robert that what he feels for is love?

I had such high hopes for this story! I'd gotten to know Robert in the other two stories in the series and was looking forward to seeing him have his HEA. Unfortunately, the writing was awful.  It was so hard for me to get through this novel.  I mentioned in my review of The Secret Life of Anna Marsh that some of the writing was off and hoped that with each novel it would improve.  Unfortunately, with each novel the writing seems to be regressing.  I will say that the writing in the second half of the book did get better, but I had to keep pushing myself to get through the first half.

Having said all that, I did enjoy the story line. Quinn added a bit of a mystery to the novel as well as a second love story. We were also able to visit the characters from the previous two books and have a peek into their lives. As hard as it was for me to get through is book, I do look forward to the next story in the series. There is a preview at the end of the book to wet your appetite.

The Secret Life of Miss Anna Marsh by Ella Quinn

The Secret Life of Miss Anna Marsh by Ella Quinn.

This is book 2 of the Marriage Game series. We met the main characters in the first book, The Seduction of Lady Phoebe.

Anna Marsh has loved Sebastian Rutherford since she was a little girl. But when he finally asks for her hand in marriage, she turns him down. He has just spent the last several years paying court to Anna's best friend and she doesn't want to play second fiddle.

Sebastian has always known that Anna would some day become his wife and has just been paying court to Anna's best friend as a diversion to other women. He has been bidding his time until Anna was old enough to get married.

Sebastian is ready to settle down but he must convience Anna that she is the girl for him.  Since Anna must return home for an undisclosed reason, Sebastian decides that is the perfect time to begin his pursuit of her.

Anna is headed home to work with the smugglers in the area. Her brother passed on the job to her when he left the country. Unfortunately, what should have been a two to three month job has lasted much longer when her brother was killed. Can Rutherford accept this side of her? She is not the girl he thinks she is while in London. Her true self comes out when she is home. Can he love this side of her too?

I really LOVED this story. There is so much more to the story which I didn't include because I didn't want to spoil it for anyone. When we first meet Anna and Sebastian in The Seduction of lady Phoebe, you know that there is an attraction between the two. They were constantly bickering with each other. Their story was one of the best I have read in awhile.  I really didn't want to put the book down.  I would have rated this book a 5/5 except there was some portions of the writing that seemed a bit off. I can't wait for the next book in the series, The Temptation of Lady Serena, which will be out on January 14, 2014.

The Seduction of Lady Phoebe by Ella Quinn

The Seduction of Lady Phoebe by Ella Quinn

Phoebe meets Marcus when they are both young. Marcus has fallen in love with Phoebe as she seems to be the only one that understands him. He is being shipped off because of his wastrel ways, but wants to tell Phoebe of his feelings before he leaves. He has been drinking since his father announced that he was leaving and he drinks even more to get the courage to approach Phoebe. Needless to say, the encounter did not go well. Phoebe ends up punching Marcus in the nose and giving him a tongue lashing.

Many years later, Marcus comes home because his brother is dying. He has kept up with Phoebe's life and knows that she has not married. He wants a second chance to gain her love. Marcus ends up helping Phoebe on two different occasions. Phoebe is falling for her knight errant, not knowing that it is Marcus and he wants it that way. They meet up again at a ball and share a wonderful waltz. When Marcus returns Phoebe to her guardian, she finds out that her knight in shining armor is her hated suitor.

The rest of the story takes us through Marcus's courtship of Phoebe and she takes him on a merry chase.

I'll start by saying this was not one of my favorite books. There was just something about the beginning of the book that annoyed me. I think it was because Phoebe had such a strong negative reaction to Marcus, that I though was a little out of proportion. Needless to say, I continued on and ended up enjoying the book. As the first book from this author, it was pretty good. I fell in love with Phoebe's family! You are also introduced to the men of the upcoming series as they are friends of Marcus. The next story is about Anna and Rutherford. I can't wait to read it!
