To Win a Lady's Heart by Ingrid Hahn

To Win a Lady's Heart by Ingrid Hahn

This is book 1 in the Landon Sisters series.

Years ago, John Merrick, the Earl of Corabeau, wanted to court Lady Grace Landon. She turned him down knowing that it would soon be revealed that her father had financially ruined her family and she didn't want her scandal to effect him. But that all changes when they are caught together in a storeroom during a house party. John immediately tells the others that they are engaged.

Unfortunately, Grace's situation isn't any better than it was all those years ago and she is determined to get John to break the betrothal. But John is not about to walk away from Grace a second time when he never stopped loving her.

Can John convince Grace that there love for each other is more important than what society is saying about them?

I really liked this story! Grace held out against John much longer than I would have been able to, LOL! Even though he was a little different (he didn't like to be in big crowds), I loved that when he was with just Grace he was able to open himself up and be the man that he wanted to be with her.

I honestly felt bad for Grace. After what her father died, she really didn't want what happened to her to happen to anyone else. Therefor she turned down John when he asked to court her. Because she didn't discuss all of this with John, she lost so much time with him. When she tries to get out of the betrothal with John,  it felt to me like she didn't feel like she deserve to be happy. John sure had a lot of work to do to win her over!!

I really enjoyed Grace's sisters and can't wait to read their stories!

Portrait of a Forbidden Lady by Kathleen Bittner Roth

Portrait of a Forbidden Lady by Kathleen Bittner Roth

This is book 2 in the Magnificent Malverns series.

Sir Robert (Rob) Garrick has returned home after fighting in the Crimean War and has settled into a quiet life in the country. Determined to get back the home that his family lost during a crooked card game, Rob plans to make sure that the current owner's grandson never inherits it. Unfortunately, that heir just happens to be the son of his former lover.

Lady Georgiana (Georgie) Cressington is biding the time until her father passes away. He has forced her to be with him or her son takes the chance of loosing his inheritance. Going back to her childhood home does bring some perks in the form of her childhood friends, but it also brings heartache when she met face the man she never stopped loving.

What happens when these former lovers come face to face again?

LOVED this story!! I love reunion stories and this was no exception! For a lot of the story, we see Rob and Georgie trying to deny to themselves that their feelings for one another have never left. But once they give in to their feelings once again, oh boy!!

I loved seeing Rob's grandmother (Mum) again, she is just so full of mischief. I'm hoping that we get stories for all the Malvern cousins!!

Enticing Her Unexpected Bridegroom by Catherine Hemmering

Enticing Her Unexpected Bridegroom by Catherine Hammering

This is book 4 in the Lady Lancaster Garden Society series.

Sarah Jardin has been in love with David Rochester since he rescued her from one of her many acts of clumsiness. But David has only viewed Sarah as his younger sister's best friend. But that all changes when they are forced to marry.

David wasn't ready to be married, but he decided to make the most of the situation. The couple is soon embroiled in a case for the Garden Society and as David spends more time with Sarah, he finds that he doesn't like of her as a sister anymore.

Can this forced marriage turn into one based on love?

I really enjoyed this story. I did read the other three books in the series before this one and while this could be read as a stand alone, I would recommend reading books 1-3 before starting this one. It will make it that much more enjoyable as you have gotten to know the H/H throughout the series.

Sarah and David had been friends for years and while Sarah has had feelings for David for quite some time, he has never thought of her as anything more than another sister. This makes for an awkward start to their marriage. Neither really knows how to go on with it, which at times lead to many misconceptions about the other.

Throughout the series, Sarah has been the clumsy, awkward friend of the group. As this story progresses, we see her gain confidence in herself and she finally grows out of this stage of her life. It was nice to see her grow through this story.

There is one more book in the series and I can't wait to read it!

A Pirate's Revenge by Meg Hennessy

A Pirate's Revenge by Meg Hennessy

This is book 3 in the Secrets of the Bayous series.

After kidnapping her brother's son, he wants revenge. Even though everything turned out in the end, Rayna de La Roche knew that her brother would not forget what she had done. Sending her to hunt down a hidden treasure, Rayna believes that she is all on her own in new Orleans. She doesn't know that her brother has arranged for a bodyguard.

Captain Zachary Nash owes his freedom to the de La Roche family, so when Rayna's brother asks him to follow and protect her, he agrees. He didn't count on the instant attraction he felt for her or that his past would get in the way of their mission.

Having grown up as royalty, Rayna is use to getting what she wants, when she wants it. But the American captain protecting her has other thoughts. Can this unlikely pair find the treasure and an everlasting love that neither of them knew they needed?

I did enjoy this story a lot. Although Miss High and Mighty did get on my nerves at times. But she did act like what I imagine royalty to have acted like back in the day.

As I've stated before, I like when couples come from different social statuses. Although most are not as large a gap as these two are. I also liked that Zach stood up to Rayna and didn't take $hit from her like most of the other men in her life. I honestly believe that was what drew her to him. All the other men that she had been involved with, had let her walk all over them or so she thought.

I really enjoyed this series. There are several secondary characters that I would love to see get their own story. My fingers are crossed that Hennessy has plans to add to this series!

This is book 3 in the Regency Reformers series.

Catharine, Viscountess Cranbrook was looking to do something more with her life. When she was approached to help find a traitor, she jumped at the chance. Her role requires her to take on the persona of "Lady V" at a high end brothel where she is paid to have "conversations" with gentleman. There is help catch a criminal, Catharine is surprised to find herself attracted to one of her clients.

Social Reformer James Burnham is at the brothel to learn more about the girls there. He wants to know if they are there willing or if they have been put to work against their wishes. But instead of talking to the girls of the house, he ends up paying for time with Lady V. He knows that she won't have the answers that he is looking for, but he couldn't stop that attraction that he felt for her.

Catharine doesn't want James know her true identity, but when they both attend the same function, her secret is revealed. Knowing that her reputation would hurt James, she tries to stay away. But sometimes that attraction is just too much to ignore.

Can the scandalous widow and the social reformer make a go of it?

Loved this story!! I've always been partial to stories that involve undercover work for the government. It's even better when it is the heroine of the story that is doing it!!

I really liked James and Catharine together. The attraction between the two of them was red hot from the very beginning! As they say, opposites do attract!

I've loved this whole series and I hope that Holiday is continuing it!!

The Earl's New Bride by Frances Fowlkes

The Earl's New Bride by Frances Fowlkes

This is book 1 in the Daughter's of Amhurst series.

Lady Henrietta Beauchamp loves her ancestral home, but when a distant relative inherits the Earldom the family has to move out. Several years later, the family learns that the earl is looking for a bride. Wanting her home back, Henrietta throws her hat into the ring during the house party the earl throws.

Simon Devere, the Earl of Amhurst, needs an heir and for that her needs a wife. Knowing that a beautiful woman would only bring him grief, Simon is determined to marry a woman that he has no hope of desiring. But he soon finds himself wildly attracted to the late earl's daughter, who only wants the to marry him to get her home back.

Can this unlikely pair find a love that they didn't know they were looking for?

I really enjoyed this story. Simon and Henrietta seemed like an unlikely pair when they first meet, but you could see the attraction from their first meeting. They both had in their head what they wanted, but soon learned that what they need was completely different.

This is my first by Fowlkes, but it won't be my last!

Less Than a Lady by Eva Devon

Less Than a Lady by Eva Devon

Darcy Blake, Earl of Chase, has been tasked with uncovering a traitor. Nothing would be unusual about this except the king has determined that he must dress up as a woman!  Darcy must take acting lessons from Amelia Fox, one of the most popular actresses of the time and learn how to act like a woman on stage. He needs to get close to her to see if her and her brother are indeed traitors to the crown. What he doesn't count on is being so attracted to the woman in the middle of his assignment.

Amelia has made a point not to get involved with anyone during her years on the stage, but her attraction to Darcy just can't be denied. But what happens when she finds out the real reason he has been getting acting lessons? Was it all real or is Darcy a better actor than even Amelia believed?

I enjoyed this story. It is not often that you end up with a love story with two people of such different class that works. Even though Amelia was an actress, she did cam from a decent family so I think that made it that much more believable.

We also get the addition of the mystery of who was or wasn't a traitor. I always enjoy a romance that has an added mystery in the storyline.  I'm hoping that Devon makes this a series as there were a few characters in which I would like to learn more about!

How to Bewitch an Earl by Ally Broadfield

How to Bewitch an Earl by Ally Broadfield

This is book 2 in the How To series.

Miss Isabella Winthrop is just trying to make enough money as a companion to help her brother pay off their debts. But when she ends up at a house party with nothing to do, she ends up helping to try and solve the mystery of the missing heirloom. Which of course means that she spends quite a bit of time with Edward Adair, the heir to the Duke of Boulstridge.

Edwards parents are demanding that he marry, but all he wants to do is find the missing heirloom. He didn't count on getting help from the beguiling Isabella. Paying Isabella to pose as his indented keeps the other guests out of the way but he didn't count on being so attracted to his partner in crime.

Will their pretend betrothal become one in truth?

I enjoyed this story.  I did really liked all the bantering between Isabella and Edward. This story had the right combination of romance with just enough mystery added in to make it just that much more interesting.

I can't wait to see what Broadfield has in store for us next!

The Highlander's Accidental Marriage by Callie Hutton

The Highlander's Accidental Marriage by Callie Hutton

This is book 6 in the Marriage Mart Mayhem series.

Lady Sarah Lacey has always let the dictates of society direct her choices, but when her carriage is wrecked and her maid gets sick she throws it all out the door to see her sister in Scotland. WIth no other avenue to take, she convinces Professor Braeden McKinnon to take her the rest of the way to her destination. She didn't count on her saying a few little words binding her to a stranger for life.

Racing home to get a much anticipated letter, Braeden didn't need the added distraction and the extra time that it would take to escort Sarah to her sister, but he couldn't say no to her. What should have been a couple of days ride, ended up taking much longer and earning himself a bride.

Can this unlikely pair make a go of their marriage?

I really liked Braeden. He put up with a lot from Sarah; she was really pretty high handed with him. Although I didn't like Sarah at the beginning of the story, she did begin to grow on me.

I liked the concept of the story and thought is was different from others in this genre. Over all, it was a very enjoyable read.

The Lost Soul of Lord Badewyn by Mia Marlowe

The Lost Soul of Lord Badewyn by Mia Marlowe

This is book 3 in the Order of the MUSE series.

When Meg Anthony's criminal relatives are close to finding her, the Duke of Camden sends her to a remote castle in Wales to protect her from them. Meg's unique gift of "finding" things means that they will not give up easily.

Meg is sent to the home of Lord Samuel Badewyn who is a Nephilim, part human and part fallen angel, as well as a watcher. Samuel is determined not to marry, but can't seem to fight his attraction to Meg.

With multiple forces working against them, can these two find the love that they both desperately need?

As with the other stories in the Order of the MUSE series, this is a paranormal historical romance. I didn't like this one as much as the others in the series, not because of the writing or story line, but because it has a little too much paranormal activities in it for my tastes.

I've really liked Meg since the beginning of the series and its nice to see her get her HEA.  She needed someone to care about her and only her, not someone that was using her for her abilities like her uncle and cousin were. Samuel was that man. He fought it as much as he could, but it was if there was a force pulling the two of them together.

I have a feeling I know who will be the star of the next book in the series, but I guess I'll have to wait and see. Regardless, I am excited to see what Marlowe comes up with next!

But being held captive by an alluring woman has Thomas thinking of intriguing ways to gain his freedom and they soon give into their mutual attraction.

Can Catherine and Thomas find a way to use the Ruby Cross to get what both of them need?

I really liked that the pirate is this story was the female lead. It definitely put a different twist on the story.

Catherine wanted to use force to get Thomas to give her the cross, but when it came down to it she couldn't.

But she did have power over him in another way and she definitely used it to the best of her ability. Of course, then the tables were turned on her!! The chemistry between these two was red hot!!

Lady of Intrigue by Sabrina Darby

Lady of Intrigue by Sabrina Darby

This book 2 in the Group of Eight series.

Lady Jane Langley's carriage is wrecked on her way to meet her father. Coming to, in the middle of the wreckage, she sees one of her traveling companion's murdered. She soon learns that the murderer knows she saw him and he takes her hostage. Injured from the crash, she has no choice but to accept the menstrations of her captor.

Gerard Badeau should have killed Jane when he discovered that she could tell everyone that the crash was not an accident, but there was something about her that drew him to her. As the bastard son of a nobleman, Gerard was raised to be a spy and did not fit into Jane's world.

As Jane and Gerard grow closer during her convalescence, where will it lead? Gerard won't be accepted in Jane's world and she is not willing to give it up.

As I've mentioned before, I always like a good spy element when reading a romance novel. This story is a little different as Gerard was raised to be a spy and not simply trained as an adult. This life is all he knows. It is not until he meets Jane that he even knows that he wants something different.

I will say that Jane annoyed me a little. She claims to be in love with Gerard, but won't give up her place with the ton. That kind of turned me off from her. I'm thinking that if it were true love, she would do anything to be with her man. Because of this, Gerard was prepared to do what had to be done to secure a place for himself in society.

In the end, all worked out of course.... I'm looking forward to reading more about the Group of Eight in Darby's upcoming books!

Turning to her best friend's brother for help, she hopes to learn if her fiance is innocent or not.

Edmund Townsend, the Marquess of Longcroft, prefers to work mathematical equations over attending society events. But when Abigail asks for his help, he can't turn her down. Thrust into society with Abigail at his side makes him reconsider his stance on marriage and possibly even love.

Can these two solve the murder and find their other half?

I really loved the first book that I read by Broadfield, How to Beguile a Duke. I was really looking forward to this one, but find that I'm a little disappointed with it.
The writing was great as was the storyline. But I just didn't feel like the H/H were great characters. There was really nothing about them that stood out to me. For me to really enjoy a book, I need to love both leads. To me, Abigail and Edmund were just ok. I like a hero to be swoon worthy and he just wasn't.

I'm hopeful that Broadfield's next book is more like Beguile than her latest...
