In the Spinster's Bed by Sally MacKenzie

In the Spinster's Bed by Sally MacKenzie

This novella is book 0.5 in the Spinster House series.

Annabelle Frost has made a life for herself after being thrown out of her home by her father for her wanton behavior. She has a home of her own and a job that she likes. But what happens when her past finds her in this new life?

Lord William Wattles has come to Loves Bridge to get away from his notorious wife. He never expects to see Annabelle in this tiny town or to see he is as attracted to her as he was 20 years ago. William would love to take up where they left off all those years ago, but Annabelle won't get involved with a married man.

Can they keep their mutual attraction from getting the better of them?

I enjoyed this short story. It gave us a nice introduction to the town of Loves Bridge and some insight to what the rest of the series will be like. I always like reunion stories and this was no exception.  I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

This is book 4 in the Renegade Royals series.

Eden Whitney has gotten herself into trouble one too many times and her mother is insisting that she take a break from the ton. Eden's BIL suggests she go to Scotland and stay with his best friend, Alastair (Alec) Gilbride. The problem with that is Eden and Alec clash at every turn.

Alec hasn't been home in ten years, but his grandfather is ailing and he must do his duty...get married. Only Alec doesn't want to marry the woman his grandfather has picked out for him. He wants Eden.

Can Alec convince Eden that he is the right man for her?
LOVED this story. I fell in love with Alec while reading How to Plan a Wedding for a Royal Spy. After watching Alec and Eden interact in that story, I knew that Kelly would pair them up next.

As I've mentioned before, I love to read stories in which the H/H banter back and forth. This story is full of that!!! I didn't want the story to end...I think Kelly needs to do another Renegade Royals story where she reunites all the characters just so I can see them again!!

What a wonderful conclusion to one of my favorite series ever!!!

An Oath Broken by Diana Cosby

An Oath Broken by Diana Cosby

This is book 2 in the Oath Trilogy.

Giric Armstrong, Earl of Terrick, just needs some money to get his keep up and running. He takes a job of escorting Lady Sarra Bellacote from England to her betrothed in Scotland. There personalities clash from the moment they met which makes for an interesting journey.

Sarra doesn't want to leave her keep get married to a man that she doesn't like, but her guardian has decreed it so she is complying. She starts butting heads with her escort and soon has to count on him to save her life when they are set upon reivers determined to get her.

To get away from the danger, Sarra and Giric must break from the group they are traveling with. Giric and Sarra soon find they have a mutual attraction, but since she is spoken for by another man they must not act on it.
But what happens when they are forced to get closer than they ever thought they would?

I've been waiting for Giric's story since I read An Oath Taken. After suffering for so long in the dungeon, I wanted him to get his HEA. Cosby did not disappoint. No way would he have been happy with a weak woman and Sarra definitely challenges him at every turn.

Forced into a situation in which it was just the two of them, they quickly came know the other intimately.  They are forced through circumstances to survive on their own, which meant that they had to learn to trust the other quickly.  Cosby did an awesome job showing how their feeling grew for each other through all of the obstacles put in their way.

My only complaint is that I felt the story ended too abruptly. I would have like another chapter or two. I can't wait to read Colyne's story which comes out in December.

The Leading Lady by Deb Marlowe

The Leading Lady by Deb Marlowe

This is book 2 in the Half Moon House Series

Miss Callie Grant is on a mission to find her sister. She is taken aback when she is told she must work with Lord Truitt (Tru) Russell to do so. Callie and Tru had had run-ins before and she doesn't think they can work together, especially when she find out that they are to pose as husband and wife.

Tru is determined to restore his honor. The only way he can do so is to help capture the man that destroyed him, Lord Marstoke. Reluctantly agreeing to work with Callie, he soon learns that what he thought about her might not be true. He also does his best to make Callie see him in a new light.

Could this faux marriage turn into one in truth?

I had hoped that Tru would get his own story and Marlowe didn't disappoint. It was nice to see that under all that troubled exterior, there was a very nice man trying to get out.

We discover many hidden depths of both Callie and Tru whom we met in The Love List. It was pure joy watching Callie and Tru pretend to be married and falling in love in the process. Once they let each other in, they were finally able to see the true person behind the facade that each of them had in place.

I've really enjoyed the Half Moon House series and can't wait to see what Marlowe has in store for us next.

It Started at Waterloo by Lynne Connolly

It Started at Waterloo by Lynne Connolly

Amelia Hartwell loves working aside Will Kennaway in the hospital. She would much rather be there then trying to catch a society husband as her mother wishes. After working for three days straight, Amelia collapses in the nearest bed only to wake hours later to feel Will's warm body next to hers.

Amelia's mother catches them in bed together but is so determined to marry her off to a wealthy peer that she lets it all go. Knowing that Amelia doesn't want to marry the man her mother has picked out for her, Will offers himself as a husband.  As Amelia has had feelings for Will since they met, she accepts his proposal.

What happens when she finds out the Will has a title and they must go back to London so Will can fulfill his duty as the earl? Will they ever find the happiness they shared while in the hospital?

I enjoyed this story. You don't often find an earl working as a surgeon because that is what he enjoys doing.  We go from the battlefield to the ballroom following this couple and their journey to love.

Because to lack of communication we see their journey take many twists and turns. It is finally when they talk to one another and get back to what they both love that they find the love that they both need.

If you are looking for an enjoyable short read, then this is the book for you. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Beauty's Curse by Tamara Hughes

Beauty's Curse by Tamara Hughes

This is book 2 in the Love on the High Seas series.

Followed by bad luck her entire life, Amelia Archer has decided to leave her family and travel to America to live with her aunt. Unfortunately, her luck didn't change. The ship she was on wrecked and they were rescued by pirates. Sailors don't like having women aboard their ships to begin with, but when other unlucky things start happening they decided to set her adrift to survive on her own.

Having stuck up for Amelia when she first boarded the pirate ship, David Lamont does it again when they insist on getting her off the ship. He won't let her go alone.
Can they survive in the middle of the ocean with very little supplies or will Amelia's bad luck follow them to the bottom of the ocean?

I always enjoy a good pirate story and this one was no exception. Hughes had the added twist of making them survive on their own. They were in the middle of the ocean with very few provisions and only had a tiny boat for protection. On board a ship, the H/H are thrown together often because there is just not much space to get their distance from one another. By placing the H/H in a tiny boat and making them count on one another to their very survival, Hughes takes her story to another level.

This was a great read and I can't wait to see what Hughes has in store for us next!

The Art of Sinning by Sabrina Jeffries

Lady Yvette Barlow makes a deal with Jeremy. She will be his model for the painting IF he will help her track down a woman at one of the city's brothels. Jeremy agrees...but what happens when they each find themselves attracted to the other? Will it interfere with both of their plans?

Only a Promise by Mary Balogh

Only a Promise by Mary Balogh

This is book 5 in the Survivors' Club series.

Chloe Muirhead is running from her father and the ton after several disastrous seasons. She takes refuge at her mother's godmother's home where she acts as companion to the Duchess of Worthington. She has given up ever finding a husband and having a family. She soons meets Ralph Stockwood, the duchesses grandson, and comes up with a plan that might work for the both of them.

Ralph knows that he needs to get married and provide an heir as the next in line to the dukedom. But after being the only survivor of the Napoleonic Wars amongst his friends, he has nothing to offer a wife except his title, money and position in society. When Chloe proposes to him, he believes that might be the solution. She is older and knows that love will never be a part of their marriage.

But what happens when both Chloe and Ralph realize that their hearts have entered the equation?

Just as with the other stories in the Survivors' Club series, I enjoyed watching Ralph realize that he wasn't as broken as he thought he was or as cold-hearted.  Both Chloe and Ralph go into this marriage to satisfy certains needs. Chloe wants children to love and Ralph needs an heir.

There was no denying the attraction between Chloe and Ralph. It was there from their very first meeting. They thought that they could keep that attraction at the physical level and both are surprised when their hearts are touched.

I can't wait for the next book in the series, which is Imogen's story. I comes out in September.

Only Marriage Will Do by Jenna Jaxon

Only Marriage Will Do by Jenna Jaxon

This is book 2 in the House of Pleasure series.

Lady Juliet Ferrers can't believe that Phillipe St. Cyr is claiming to be her husband. Luckily a stranger comes to her rescue. He shows up at her door and she claims him as her fiance. Juliet knows that she must leave town to get away from Phillipe, even it it means traveling on her own.

Captain Amiable Dawson, unwittingly came to the rescue of Juliet. Being the gentleman that he is, he is unable to let her travel on her own. Trying to resist their mutual attraction, they eventually give in and get married. But are they indeed married, or is Juliet actually married to Phillipe?

I was going back and forth about my rating on this book. I really liked Amiable, but Juliet got on my nerves. I thought she was a little too manipulative for my tastes.
I enjoyed the storyline, but wasn't blown away by the story.

The Undercover Scoundrel by Jessica Peterson

The Undercover Scoundrel by Jessica Peterson

This is book 3 in the Hope Diamond Trilogy.

12 years ago, a very young Lady Caroline married Henry Lake. Unfortunately, he ran off on their wedding night. Realizing that he wasn't coming back, Caroline married his best friend and became Duchess of Berry. She is now a widow and just now coming back into society. No one is more surprised than Caroline, when Henry shows up in London.

Unbeknownst to Caroline, Henry works for the government as a spy. He left all those years ago to protect her. He is only in town to help recover the French Blue diamond. He was hoping to avoid seeing Caroline, but a chance meeting in the park changes everything. The attraction between the two of them is as strong as ever.

Can Caroline help Henry find the diamond without having her heart broken again?

Loved this series!! I highly recommend reading the whole series together (as I did), because the books are so intertwined. They cover the same period of time and with each book you see the same things occur, but from a different perspective.

I loved this particular book because the H/H have a history together. They are married to each other even though they have not seen each other for 12 years. The chemistry that was there then, is still burning hot.

I loved that Peterson took some real life people and gave us a story about what might have happened to what became known as the Hope Diamond. This series is her first and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next!!

Accepting a wager from one man who has ever gotten under her skin, she soon finds herself married again. She didn't know that her marriage would turn her life upside down.

Lord Randolph made a promise to his mentor, protect his daughter at all costs. I don't think that marriage to Sophia was what her father had in mind, but from the moment he set eyes on her, didn't did have any other option. When Sophia finds out the truth about Randolph's relationship with her father, she runs off with no clues to her whereabouts.

Can Randolph find Sophia and protect her as much from herself as the enemy? Can there marriage ever be more than in name only?

The Highlander's Choice by Callie Hutton

The Highlander's Choice by Callie Hutton

This is book 5 in the Marriage Mart Mayhem series.

Lady Sybil Lacey can't believe that she has to travel to the Highlands to see her best friend married. Knowing that all the men are heavy drinking lechers, Sybil is surprised to find herself attracted to one of them. Even though all they do is trade barbs, she keeps finding herself drawn to the highlander.

Liam MacBride's best friend might be marrying an English lady, but there is no way that he would be caught by one of the silly ladies that talk of nothing more than the latest fashions and spreading gossip. Then why does he keep finding himself drawn to the bride's best friend and fellow Englishwoman?

Can these two put aside their misconceptions of each other to find an everlasting love?

LOVED this story!! I think I'm drawn to the stories where the H/H end up sparring with words. The banter in Hutton's latest romance had me laughing out loud throughout the story.

Both Sybil and Liam have misconceptions about what the other will be like based on their upbringing and how the people of their countries feel about the other. It was very amusing to see them work through those misconceptions and find the real person instead of the stereotype they believed each other to be.

Hutton's latest story is one NOT to miss!

To Tame the Wind by Regan Walker

To Tame the Wind by Regan Walker

This is a prequel to the Agents of the Crown series.

Having lived her life inside the walls of the Saint-Denis convent, Claire Donet had no idea her father was a pirate. So when Simon Powell steals her away in retaliation of something her father did, she is taken by complete surprise.

Simon is furious that his ship and crew have been taken. In hopes of getting both back, he takes the one thing that means more than anything to the thief...his daughter. Simon didn't count on finding a mutual attraction with his captive.

Knowing that he will never get his crew and ship back if he gives into his passions, Simon fights what could be his toughest battle yet.

I really liked the storyline, but the writing was not as strong as the previous book I'd read by Walker. Maybe she was trying to convey an innocence in Claire which she tried to convey in her dialogue, but it just didn't satisfy me as a reader. It turned me off from the whole story. I usually devour a story in one or two sittings, but this one I could put it down and did...
