Defying the Earl by Anabelle Bryant

Defying the Earl by Anabelle Bryant

This is book 1 in the Regency Charms series.

Wilhelmina "Whimsy" Montgomery must find a way to support her aunt, sister and herself after the death of her parents. Trying her hand at matching making, she gets her first paying job that appears to be a piece of cake. The couple is very close to getting engaged anyway, she she just needs to make sure they stay on that path. She hadn't counted on Valerian St. David.

Valerian, the Earl of Dashwood, hardly has enough money to feed himself, let alone pay his staff and support his properties.  His brother is full of ridiculous ideas on how to make money, but his latest scheme might just work. Valerian is going to act as a match breaker. He is quickly hired to break up his first couple, which just happens to be the couple that Whimsy is trying to keep together.

What happens when these two cross paths with different purposes? Sparks fly for sure!

LOVED this story. I always love a story where the H/H banter with each other throughout the story and this story had plenty of that. Bryant hits it out of the ballpark again!! I can't wait for the next book in the series!

The Lady Hellion by Joanna Shupe

This is book 3 in the Wicked Deceptions series.

Trying to fight for the rights of the poor, Lady Sophia Barnes, has gotten herself challenged to a duel. Not knowing how to fire a gun, she must find someone to teach her. The only person who she dares to ask is Damien "Quint" Beecham, Viscount Quint. The man that broke her heart years ago.

Battling his own demons, Quint doesn't want this intrusion into his life. Especially from the woman he has not stopped wanting. But knowing that Sophia will continue on with or without his help, he reluctantly agrees to help her learn to shoot as well as help her with her cause.

Can these two former sweethearts find the love that each of them are craving?

I loved this story just as much as the other two in the series! Sophia is not your typical society miss and Quint is definitely not your typical lord. They two of them complimented each other very well.

With the added mystery of who is murdering the prostitutes and Quint's condition, the story had me on the edge of my seat throughout! This is definitely one of those stories that you read in one sitting because you just can't put it down.

I can't wait to see what Shupe has in store for us next!

This is book 7 in the Marriage Game series.

When Christopher "Kit" Featherton finds out that someone is impersonating a wife he doesn't have, he is determined to set the woman in her place. Finding the one woman who he has ever contemplated marrying in his home, he decides to see how things progress.

Can't they convince everyone that they really are married? What happens when Kit decides that he wants a marriage in truth?

Those of you that have read my other reviews of books by Ella Quinn, know that I have a love/hate relationship with her writing. I generally enjoy the stories, but something about her writing just turns me off. I didn't get that with this book. I got a little frustrated with the characters at times (seriously, just kiss each other!!!), but that happens with most love stories you read.

I did thoroughly love the two matchmakers in this story!! I love that they concocted this idea to bring their two family members together. I also felt like I got a 3 for 1 with this story as there were two side romances along the way.

I look forward to Quinn's next book in the series, which comes out in July.

Wolf Bride by Elizabeth Moss

Wolf Bride by Elizabeth Moss

This is book 1 in the Lust in Tutor Court series.

Eloise Tyrell, lady-in-waiting to Queen Boleyn, has just been told that her father has found a husband for her. Marrying a stranger was not what she had in mind for herself, especially after watching the events unfolding at the castle.

Lord Wolf has been intrigued with Eloise since he saw her riding across the moors.  There marriage gets off to a rocky start and doesn't get any better when Eloise is called to testify at the Queen's trial.

Can these two strangers make a go of their marriage or will all the intrigue at court keep them apart?

I don't usually like romance stories that revolve too much around real life events (King Henry VIII trying to "get rid" of Anne Boleyn) but I did enjoy this one. It could be because I actually knew quite a bit about the time period already as I teach these events to my students.

We see two strangers coming together as husband and wife. They start to build their relationship at their estate and are then quickly thrown into the intrigue at court. That definitely adds another element to the story.

This is my first book by Moss and I will definitely be back for more.

Kilts and Daggers by Victoria Roberts

Kilts and Daggers by Victoria Roberts

This is book 2 in the Highland Spies series.

Lady Grace Walsingham can't believe that her sister has decided to spend the rest of her life in Scotland. Having traveled there to see her sister wed, Grace can't wait to get back to England and her betrothed. She didn't count on falling for her own barbaric Scot.

Fagan has orders from his liege to take Grace back to England after her visit. All they ever seem to do is trade barbs back and forth. When all that hatred suddenly turns to passion, what will these two former foes do?

While reading My Highland Spy, I figured that Roberts would pair Grace and Fagan up.  Even then, the chemistry between the pair just leapt off the page. She did not disappoint.

I loved the verbal sparring between Grace and Fagan. It had me laughing out loud at times. Roberts had just the right amount of romance, intrigue and adventure to make this the perfect story.

I can't wait to read the next book in the series!!

Whenever I pick up a book by Jade Lee, I know I won't be disappointed. Her writing draws me into a book and won't let me put it down until the very last page.  50 Ways to Ruin a Rake is no exception. Full of witty banter and steamy love scenes, Lee will keep you entranced until the very end.

The Harlot Countess by Joanna Shupe

The Harlot Countess by Joanna Shupe

This is book 2 in the Wicked Deceptions series.

Having been ruined in the eyes of society during her debut, Maggie was quickly married off to the Lord Hawkins. Several years have passed and Maggie once again emerges into society but plays the part of the "Harlot Countess". What others don't know, is that she is the renown artist know as Lemarc who takes pleasure in ridiculing Simon Barrett, the Earl of Winchester for his part in her heart break.

Simon is determined to find out who the artist know as Lemarc is. He is tired of being ridiculed by the man. He is desperate enough to go to his former love and get her expert opinion on the subject. Having his heart broken by Maggie once was hard enough, but can he allow his heart to suffer it again?

What will Simon do when he finds out that the person he is hunting is none other than his former love?

I really enjoyed this story! It is nice to get away from the "prim and proper" debutants that are normally in a historical romance. With Maggie, we get a girl who did the right thing and she was taken advantage of. She then decides to take her life into her own hands and do as she pleases. She isn't out to make anyone happy but herself.

Of course, I would have loved to have seen Simon believe in his love for Maggie when they were younger and stick by her, but then there wouldn't be a story. I did like that he seemed to have been pining for her all this time, serves him right for turning his back on her! But Shupe did a wonderful job of bring him back into my good graces.

I can't wait for the next book in the series, which comes out at the end of May.
