Beauty and the Barbarian by Amy Jarecki

Beauty and the Barbarian by Amy Jarecki.

This is book 3 in the Highland Force series.

Ian MacLeod is on the run from his uncle's henchman. He has taken his uncle's wife to the safety of her clan to save her from the brutal hand of his uncle and needless to say he was not happy about it.  Unfortunately the henchman caught up with Ian and after shooting him, left him for dead.

Luckily for Ian, Merrin found his washed up body. After determining that he wasn't dead, Merrin and her father took Ian back to their cottage to nurse him back to health.

Merrin is mesmerized from her first sight of Ian. Having been secluded on an island with only her father her whole life because of her "mark of the devil, Merrin has never encountered anyone like Ian. Afraid of what he will think of her, Merrin tries to keep are mark hidden from Ian.

Eventually he discovers her mark and Merrin is surprised that Ian doesn't think much about it. Ian got to know her as a person before seeing the mark and knows that it can't mean she is an evil person.

Soon they have to go on the run as the henchman has learned that Ian is alive.  Can Ian keep himself, Merrin and her father alive? If he succeeds, what will happen to their growing attraction to each other? Ian is a laird's son and Merrin is considered a witch by the rest of the clan, could it ever work for them?

I absolutely loved the first two books in this series, but I didn't think this one was as good as the others. The writing seemed a bit weaker than the others, but it could have been a feeling that Jarecki was trying to convey in regard to the heroine. Something just seemed to be off.

I also didn't like that Calum from the first book in the series was dead (he and Anne were suppose to grow old together!!)  :(     But the story couldn't have progressed the way that it did if Ian hadn't been shipped off to be fostered by his uncle.

But having said that, I did enjoy the story and it was nice to see Anne, Enya and Bran again.

Duke of Darkness by Anabelle Bryant

Duke of Darkness by Anabelle Bryant.

This is book two in the series. You can read about book 1 HERE.

The Duke of Wharncliffe, Devlin Ravensdale, has just learned that his last living relative has just passed away.  Her last request was to have Devlin take care of her ward, Alex, and arrange a suitable marriage. When Devlin arrives to do just that, he learns that his ward is not a young boy but a beautiful marriage young lady.

Alexandra (Lexi as Devlin calls her) is not happy about being put into another man's care. She ran away from home when her father tried to marry her off, she don't want someone else doing it to her again. After losing a bet to Devlin, Lexi agrees to be taken to London to find a husband.

With the help of a friend and his sister, Devlin ventures back into society to launch Lexi only to be reminded why he rarely returned to the social scene.  He endures because he is determined to fulfill his aunt's last wish. But what happens when Devlin decides that he wants Lexi for himself?

We met Devlin in the previous story and the only thing we really know about him is that he doesn't venture out into society very often. But I really liked is easy going relationship with the other characters so I was intrigued enough to really want to read his story.  Bryant did not disappoint.

Lexi is perfect for Devlin. She wants to marry someone that she loves. Her father already tried to marry her off once before and she ran away instead of following his wishes.  Her attraction to Devlin is almost instantaneous upon meeting him and she feels like he feels the same way.  She goes along with his plan to find her a husband knowing all along that he is the man for her. She just needs to convience him.

Even though Devlin is falling for Lexi, he doesn't think that he would make her a good husband. He thinks madness runs in his family and couldn't do that to her.  Lexi does everything in her power to convience him otherwise.

I really hope that Bryant continues with this series as I would love to see what happens to the secondary characters!

The Seduction of Sarah Marks by Kathleen Bittner Roth

The Seduction of Sarah Marks by Kathleen Bittner Roth.

Sarah Marks wakes up to find herself in a strange bed with a man she does not know.  That man is Lord Eastleigh. He tells her that she was hit over the head when someone attacked their carriage. Other than her name, Sarah can't remember anything of her past, including what she was doing in the carriage with man that is in her bed. Eastleigh says the best course of action is to go back to his home where a doctor can help her with the amnesia.

As Sarah and Eastleigh spend more time together, they have to fight their attraction to each other. They don't know anything about Sarah's past and the doctor doesn't want anything to interfere with her recovery.

Soon Sarah remembers her own name and that she has a husband. What will happen when Sarah remembers it all and learns that Eastleigh was hiding something about her past all along?

This was the first novel that I have read by the author and I throughly enjoyed it!  All the little twists and turns had me not wanting to put the book down. There was even one twist that had me gasping out loud after reading it.

I did find it a little unrealistic that Eastleigh and Sarah would both suffer from amnesia, but I guess that made the story what it was.

I hope that Roth continues this series with stories about all the Malvern siblings!
