What a Devilish Duke Desires by Vicky Dreiling

What a Devilish Duke Desires by Vicky Dreiling

This is book 3 in the Sinful Scoundrels series.

Harry Norcliffe never wanted his uncles title. He was not raised among the peerage and is not your typical Duke. When he meets Lucy, he doesn't tell her that he is a Duke right away. She works among the ton, but has no idea who he really is. He enjoys spending time with her, because he knows she is not after something from him other than his friendship.

Lucy is just trying to make ends meet for her grandmother and herself. Her dream is to open her own dance studio to train you debutants how to dance.  Having been let go from her seamstress job, and working for a tyrannical dance instructor, Lucy welcomes the opportunity to branch out on her own. A chance meeting introduces her to Harry.

Thinking him a well to do businessman, she befriends him needing someone to talk to during her troubling times.
What happens when Lucy finds out that not only is Harry a member of the peerage, but a Duke? Their two worlds soon collide and mischief ensues. Can their budding romance survive?

I really enjoyed Harry and Lucy's story. I've always enjoyed stories in which members of the peerage don't act like they are better than everyone else. Having not grown up with a title, Harry hates all the attention that comes with being a Duke. He desperately misses his uncle that he inherited the title from and feels like it shouldn't even be his. He is intrigued by Lucy for what she isn't, a young debutant looking to marry a title.

Lucy has been educated like a young society miss because her mother was from the peerage. But having married beneath her, her family disowned her. After Lucy's mother and then father passed away, she didn't have anyone to rely on but herself. Taking care of her blind grandmother became another job in of itself, although she never begrudged her for it. Meeting Harry took some of the load off of her mind, not because her life became easier, but because she had someone to talk to about it.

Another great read by Dreiling!! I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

This is book 2 in the Breconridge Brothers series.

Lord Geoffrey Fitzroy is captivated by Miss Serena Palmer from the moment he sees her across the ballroom floor. No where near ready to settle down and take a wife, he starts a flirtation with her.

What will Geoffrey do when he learns the secret that Serena has been hiding from him? Will it ruin the happy marriage that neither thought they wanted?

Loved this story! Geoffrey was a rake, but once he found what he wanted there was no stopping him.  He hadn't planned on falling in love but when it did he did everything in his power to hold on to it.

Serena had secrets that would ruin everything if they came to light. She was determined that no one find them out. She thought that if she got close to anyone, they would find out and she would be ruined.  Because of this she became known as an ice queen.  Lucky for her, Geoffrey was able to break through her barrier and she the wonderful woman she was keeping from everyone.

I can't wait to read the next book in the series which is about Geoffrey's brother River!

Highland Guard by Hannah Howell

Highland Guard by Hannah Howell

This is book 20 in the Murray Family series.

Lady Annys MacQueen's home was under attack. She knew of only one person that she could call upon to help her, Sir Harcourt Murray.  5 years ago, Harcourt had agreed to father a child for Annys' husband to repay the debt of saving his life. Having gotten close to Harcourt during this time, Annys was heartbroken when he leaves without saying goodbye.

Annys has never been far from his mind, so when she calls for his help Harcourt rushes to her aid. It's hard to ignore the passion to simmers just under the surface whenever they are near one another. They soon give into it just as their enemy strikes.

Both have obligations to their home and people. Can they find a way to make their love everlasting?

I love Howell's Murray series and this one is no exception. With this being the 20th book in the series, you would think that Howell would run out of good stories to tell but she clearly hasn't.

I loved Harcourt and Annys. I hated that they had to hide their feelings for each other for the sake of her clan and her child.  When they finally gave into their passions, I yelled a little cheer.  Their son, Benet, was adorable and added much to the story. As did their pets, Roban and Roberta.

I can't wait to see what Howell has in store for the Murrays next, but I know it will be awesome!

Earls Just Want to Have Fun by Shana Galen

Earls Just Want to Have Fun by Shana Galen

This is book 1 in the Covent Garden Cubs.

Marlowe is startled to have the person she just pickpocketed suddenly tell her that he has been looking for her and call her Elizabeth.  It's only the rare times when she is alone that she thinks of her time as Elizabeth.  Days later, while on a job, she is snatched off the street and thrown into a carriage.

Maxwell, Lord Dane, can't believe that his brother, a bow street runner, talked him into helping him kidnapping this hellion. When his brother runs off on another case, Maxwell is left to deal with Marlowe himself. He can't believe that his brother believes that this pickpocket could be Lady Elizabeth.

After an interesting several days, Marlowe decides to stay with Maxwell and learn if she is truely Lady Elizabeth. But her real decision is whether to give in to the attraction she feels for Maxwell knowing that she would never be more to him than a short fling?

Loved this story and can't wait for the rest of the series!! Galen is one of my favorite authors and really knows how to keep me intrigued with the characters. With this new series, she takes us away for the glittering ballrooms and into a side of London not normally written about in historical romance.

I really liked Marlowe. She was obviously not your typical heroine having grown up in the Seven Dials, one of the worst parts of London. Her colorful language had me laughing out loud. She was the opposite of any debutant and that made the story so much more interesting.

Maxwell comes off as a snob at the beginning of the story, but we see him grow as a person as he gets to know Marlowe. She gets him to see the reality of what is happening in the poorer parts of London and he changes his tune by the end of the story.

I really liked Maxwell's sister Susanna and Marlowe's friend Gideon and hope that Galen give each of them their own story (maybe pair them up...).
