Highlander Undone by Connie Brockway

Recovering from his wounds at his uncle's estate, Jack Cameron is trying to figure out how to catch a traitor amongst Her Majesty's Black Dragoons. When he overhears a conversation between Addie Hoodless and her brother, a plan starts to form. He will pose as an artist and "hang out" with the siblings while Addie's brother paints the soldier's portraits. Not knowing who Jack is, might have the culprit talking and revealing himself.

Addie Hoodless has just come out of mourning for a husband she loathed. He was an officer who mentally and physically abused her. Since her marriage, she has stayed away form all men that have the domineering personality that her husband had which includes all soldiers.

As Addie and Jack get closer, he hates that he is lying to her. What will Addie do when she finds out that Jack is a part of the institution that she hates?

Virtuous Scoundrel by Maggie Fenton

Virtuous Scoundrel by Maggie Fenton

This is book 2 in the Regency Romp Trilogy.

Sebastian Sherbrook, the Marquess of Manwaring, has recently returned to London after the death of his estranged Uncle whom he inherited the title from. Trying to reform his rakish image, he ends up tangled in the biggest scandal of the season. This does not help him woo the only woman he has ever loved.

Lady Katherine Manwaring has never had a good opinion about her late husband's nephew and with this latest scandal, her opinion is confirmed. But when Sebastian is needs to recover from an assault, he does so at Katherine's home.

What happens when Katherine finds out that she is the woman that Sebastian is in love with and that her perception of him might not be all that accurate?

I've been waiting for this story since I read The Duke's Holiday last March. I was hoping that Fenton would pair up Katherine and Sebastian after reading their interactions during Astrid and Monford's story.

We have the whole love/hate relationship going with these two.  Katherine has heard nothing but bad things about Sebastian. Sebastian can't believe that Katherine married a man like his uncle. But neither can deny the attraction they feel for each other when they are anywhere neither the other. They end up being at war with themselves over their decisions.  Should they or shouldn't they. Do you follow what your heart is telling you or what you think is the logical decision?

Fenton surpassed my expectations with this story and I can't wait to read Viscount Marlowe's story which comes out at the end of the year.

The Duke's Holiday by Maggie Fenton

The Duke's Holiday by Maggie Fenton

This is book 1 in The Regency Romp series.

Astrid Honeywell is trying to keep her family together. With the death of her father, the estate is suppose to revert back to the Duke of Montford. She is not about to let that happen. She has been corresponding with the Duke for years and doesn't see any reason to notify him that anything has changed. Her family has no where to go if their home is taken and she will do anything to keep it, including setting a pig after the Duke.

Having come into the dukedom at a very young age, Montford never had a childhood. He has grown up getting everything he has wanted and everything done the way he likes it.  When he learns that the elder Honeywell has passed, he sends his man of business to take care of things. When he doesn't hear from him, he makes his own way to the estate.

What happens when the Honeywells add a tremendous amount of chaos to the Duke's life?

OMG, this is one of the funniest books I have read! Fenton is masterful with her comedic timing. What is better than putting a stiff-necked duke into one of the most chaotic homes around? The antics that she puts the H/H through are hysterical.

The bantering between Astrid and Montford is priceless.  Their whole relationship is a back and forth between hating each other and fighting their attraction for the other.

I'm so glad to have found Fenton and can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

Betrayed by Your Kiss by Laura Landon

Betrayed by Your Kiss by Laura Landon

Lady Olivia Sheridan has loved Lord Damien for most of her life. On the eve of their wedding, Damien is accused of fathering another woman's baby and forced to fight a duel. Injured in the duel, Damien is brought back to the house to recover. But Olivia learns that he has a price on his head and unless she protects him, he will have survived the duel only to be murdered later. Knowing that the only way to save him is to get him away from the country, she puts him on one of her father's ships.

Four years have passed and Olivia is now running her father's shipping business as well as Damien's holdings because she can't bring herself to tell his family of his death. She soon learns that Damien is not dead and is determined to make her pay for putting him on that ship.

Can Olivia make Damien see that what she did was for his protection or will he have his revenge?

I really liked this story. It was different from the stories that I normally read and was a nice change of pace. This was a couple that had already found love and then were torn apart. He blames her for being sent away, while she feels it was the only thing she could do at the time to save his life. Most of the story was showing them finding their way back to each other and learning to trust again.

This was my first by the author and I will definitely be looking for more of her work.

The Songbird's Seduction by Connie Brockway

The Songbird's Seduction by Connie Brockway.

Lucy Eastlake has lived with her great-aunts since she was a child. Now an operetta singer, she had been struggling to make ends meet for her family. But soon that will all change when her aunt Lavinia comes into an inheritance (a fortune of rubies split amongst the survivors of a siege fifty years before). Unfortunately, they must travel to France to get it.

Just before embarking on their trip, Lucy meets Ptolemy Archibald the grandson of Lavinia's lost love from the siege.  Having denied his escort, Ptolemy goes after Lucy and her aunts anyway wanting to make sure they arrive in France safely.

But when he encounters Lucy without her aunts, they must make the rest of the trip alone.  What happens when the straight-laced professor and the spunky operetta singer decide not to deny the attraction they feel for each other?

This story does not take place during the historical time periods I usually read, but since it was a Connie Brockway story I picked it up anyway. Brockway did not disappoint!

I liked that the heroine had a career that was a little racy for that time period and that she was attracted to a stuffy ol' professor who turned out to not be so stuffy after all.  As usual, Brockway had me laughing out loud at the characters antics and kept me reading to see what else they would get up to.

If you are a fan of the Edwardian era, this is the book for you!
