Highlander Undone by Connie Brockway

Recovering from his wounds at his uncle's estate, Jack Cameron is trying to figure out how to catch a traitor amongst Her Majesty's Black Dragoons. When he overhears a conversation between Addie Hoodless and her brother, a plan starts to form. He will pose as an artist and "hang out" with the siblings while Addie's brother paints the soldier's portraits. Not knowing who Jack is, might have the culprit talking and revealing himself.

Addie Hoodless has just come out of mourning for a husband she loathed. He was an officer who mentally and physically abused her. Since her marriage, she has stayed away form all men that have the domineering personality that her husband had which includes all soldiers.

As Addie and Jack get closer, he hates that he is lying to her. What will Addie do when she finds out that Jack is a part of the institution that she hates?

I really enjoyed this story. Jack had to try to maintain a personally that wasn't really his own and that added another layer to the story. It was fun watching him fight his natural inclination and do what his "character" would have done. But when the time came, he did step up to the plate!!

I really love Brockway's older books, but I find her newest books are a breathe of fresh air!
