For Her Spy Only by Robyn DeHart.
This is book 2 in the Masquerading Mistresses series.
Winifred and her maid are stranded on the side of the road when Alistair, the Marquess of Coventry, comes to their rescue. With no other options, they accepted the help and stay with Alistair until they can travel again.
Winifred finds herself attracted to Alistair and instead of fighting it, Winifred gives into it. Her betrothed had jilted her and started spreading rumors. Since she was paying for crimes that she didn't commit, why not actually do something to deserve the scorn.
Six years later finds Winifred a widow with a young son and Alistair knocking on her door. He has come to look at her husband's maps and is surprised to find she is the widow of the man he came to see.
Their chemistry rekindles instantly, but Winifred must keep her distance to protect her son. What will Alistair do when he finds out the truth she has been hiding?
This was a pretty quick read, but I think DeHart did a good job of hooking me in with a satisfying story. I liked that Winifred was not your typical society miss and took control of her life (feel an attraction, don't fight it!). Alistair was looking for the maps to decode a message for a spy mission. The added element of that made it a very enjoyable read.
DeHart does a wonderful job with novellas. She sucks me in and keeps me enthralled just like with a full length novel. I can't wait to see what she has coming up!
Thanks go to Entangled Publishing for a copy of the book in exchange of and honest review.
