The Heiress Effect by Courtney Milan

Jane Fairfield is very loud and socially inept. Her hideous clothes and her outrageous plain speaking are the talk of the ton. She is constantly being talked about behind her back and even though she is very wealthy, no man will consider marrying her....and she likes it that way! She and her sister are living with their uncle, their guardian. Jane wants to remain unwed so she can stay at home and protect her sister from the nut-job physicians that her uncle brings to treat her sister's seizures. If they wait just a little longer, they will be free of their guardian and can live their own lives.

Mr Oliver Marshall, the son of Serena from The Governess Affair, is trying to climb the political ladder. He is doing his best to overcome the stigma of being born a bastard and will do anything to further his political ambitions.

The Marquess of Bradenton has tasked Oliver with the job of humiliating Jane in exchange for his help with the bills that Oliver wants passed. So Oliver sets out to befriend Jane as he believes that will be the best way to understand her and ultimately humiliate her.

As Oliver gets to know Jane, he must make the decision of furthering his political ambitions or to pursue the blossoming friendship he is developing with Jane.

I LOVED this book!  The things that Jane says to others, had me laughing out loud. I loved the secondary romance that involved Jane's sister, Emily. It's not common to have people of other nationalities in historical romances. I also loved seeing characters from the series making an appearance. The next book in the series, The Countess Conspiracy, is about Sebastian. I can't wait for it to be released at the end of the year!

You can find this book at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, All Romance, iBooks, and Smashwords.
