English soldiers attach her home and kill her father. With the help of her injured mother, Elysande escapes and make her way to someone that can help her disappear and to give warning to the king that trouble is coming his way.
When Rory is asked to transport a treasure to the Highlands, he never imagined it would be a person. Being a healer, Rory can see that Elysande is injured but she won't allow him to see the injuries. When he finally does see them, he can't believe that she has carried on with no complains the way she has.
As they journey north, Rory and Elysande grow closer and Rory begins to think that there should be more to his life than that of just a healer.
I adored Elysande and Rory's story! Elysande was amazing. To go through what she did and not give up, was amazing. It showed how strong she was. Nothing was going to get in her way of the job she had to do. I also loved how caring Rory was. These two were perfect together!
It has been awhile since I have read a book by Sands and this reading reminded me of why I liked her books so much! While this is the 9th book in the series, you can definitely read it as a stand alone. I'm not read the other 8 books, but see myself trying to find time to read them soon!
You can get this book at the following retailers:
