Beatrix is the illegitimate daughter of a duke. When her mother died, he abandoned her. She has worked hard to be a daughter he can be proud of. To learn more about the man, she has taken to hiding in a tree next door to watch him. She didn't count on seeing a woman plunge to her death while on her watch.
Thomas' wife plunges to his death in the middle of a heated argument. While he wanted her out of his life, he didn't kill the woman. When he meets Beatrix, he is instantly attracted to her. But with the investigation into his wife's death, this is not the time to start something new.
While each have their own missions, Beatrix to gain her father's love and Thomas to prove his innocence, they both find the time to spend with one another which leads to finding a love that neither of them was expecting.
I loved Beatrix and Thomas's story! I really enjoyed them finding this unexpected love. With Thomas having just lost his wife and it having been a horrible marriage, he was no where near wanting to start something new. But when he met Beatrix, he just couldn't stop the feelings he was having for her. She wasn't looking for anything either. She just wanted to get her father to acknowledge her. I loved that they found love in an unexpected way!
This was a great addition to The Pretenders series and I can't wait to see Rafe gets up to in his story!
