The Gift of the Marquess by Darcy Burke
Poppy has been volunteering at a poorhouse and helping to take care of the women and child. It has kept her mind away from the fact that she hasn't been able to give her husband a child of their own. But lately it has made her to sad to be around all the mothers and their children. She finally has a talk with her husband and she realizes that they are not on the same page when it comes to having children.
Gabriel loves his wife more than anything. If he lost her, he doesn't know what he would do. He has lost too many female family members to childbirth sickness, so when Poppy doesn't get pregnant, he is relieved that he won't lose her that way. But when a misunderstanding brings light to how both of them feel, it causes a strain on their marriage.
Can these two reconcile before the holiday season or will it just push them further apart?
I really enjoyed Poppy and Gabriel's story. It was different from most romances in that the couple is already married and very much in love, but they've reached a rough patch in their marriage. It was wonderful watching these to find their happiness again. Too often in romances, we only see the HEA and not what comes afterward. Bravo to Burke for showing up what might come after the HEA!
