This is book 2 in the Spies and Lovers series.
When Minerva Bellingham's brother, Simon, loses a fortune to Lord Rafe Drummond, she is not certain what they will do. Deciding to offer Rafe her dowry, Minerva goes to him with the proposition. She is shocked to hear that Rafe has other plans for them. He wants Minerva to work as a maid and Simon as a stable hand to work off the debt. They must work for three months at his estate, at that point, the debt will be forgiven.
Rafe's decision to have the Bellingham's work for him, came from his desire to make a man of Simon. He could see that he just needed a little guidance to make that happen. Having Minerva join them, was just a little selfishness on his part. Having been attracted to her for some time, he relished spending some time with her. He hadn't counted on the all consuming passion that would develop between them.
When someone from Simon's past threatens their happiness, will they realize that they were meant for each other?
Loved this story!! We met Minerva and Rafe in An Indecent Invitation. You could see the sparks between them then. The bantering between Rafe and Minerva had me laughing out loud.
In AII, Rafe came across as this man that had hardened his heart to everyone and everything (except his sister). We see a different side of him here and learn what made him into the man that his is. Minerva was the perfect person to push back at him and to get him to open his heart once again.
This has been one of my favorite series so far. I really hope that Trentham continues with it for many more stories!! I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next!
