Maybelle Ballenger is doing what she must to get money for her trip to London. Having just been told of relatives upon the death of her mother, she also needs to learn to fit in with the ton. Coming across Bramwell "Bram" Hallowsby is a stroke of luck. But can she convience him that she is not the charlatan that he believes her to be?
Just trying to get a job done when he encounters Maybelle, Bram hadn't counted on being so attracted to her. He reluctantly agrees to help her get to London and make her into a lady. When Maybelle is finally reunited with her family, Bram, as the bastard son of a duke, no longer fits into her world.
Can this unlikely duo overcome societies dictates to find an everlasting love?
I did enjoy this story. Bram and Maybelle were both such strong characters. Maybelle had no one left in the world to take care of her, so she did whatever it took to get to the only family she had left. Bram, being the bastard son of a Duke, didn't have an easy time of it either. He made the best of his situation and didn't wallow in self pity as others might have done.
One Rogue at a Time is a great read and a wonderful addition to Lee's Rakes and Rogues series!
