Henrietta Upperton is working as a companion to a cantankerous old woman who happens to be the grandaunt of her former betrothed. When he suddenly shows up on her employers doorstep to recover from a shipwreck, she is determined not to fall under his spell again.
Alexander Sanford had run off to India to save his family's fortune. Acting on his sense of honor, he ends up marrying someone else. Back in England, he can't help but realize what he gave up.
Can Alexander convince Henrietta to give him another chance at love?
I really liked this story, even the cantankerous old woman!!
Henrietta was hurt when Alexander broke off their engagement and I don't blame her. It been eight years, but she realizes that she still has feeling for him. You kinda want to hate Alexander for hurting Henrietta, but you can tell that he truly still loves her. He just had to prove that to Henrietta. I liked that added mystery to the story, that is always a good addition to any good romance story.
I can't wait for the next story in the series which stars Alexander's sister Cecelia and his friend Viscount Linderhurst.
