After her husband and son die, Segna finds herself working in a tavern for her uncle. She makes is clear that she is not there to do anything but serve the patrons food. But one night, some men don't take the hint and attach her when she is alone. The notorious pirate Ruairí comes to her aide. When he ends up saving her for the second time and offers to take her with him when he leaves, she decides to take a chance.
Ruairí is intrigued by Segna the first time he lays eyes on her. When he sees what a strong woman she is, it just makes the fascination that much stronger. He surprises no one more than himself when he asks Segna to join him on his ship. But as he spends time with her, he starts to imagine a life that he never thought to have. Can this pirate and his widow get a HEA that neither of them dreamed of?
I really enjoyed Segna and Ruairí's story. We see part of it in the previous book which featured cousins of both of them. I love that Segna was such a strong woman and could fight right along Ruairí. I don't think he would have been as attracted to her had she not been such a fierce fighter. Not only in strength but in getting what she wanted out of life. This was a great addition to the Pirates of the Isles series!
