Fiona makes a living of cleaning up crime scenes, which is not a typical job for a female. Arriving at one scene, she realizes that it reminds her of another that she cleaned up. Her friend, Mary, had been killed by Jack the Ripper. Her current crime scene eerily takes her back two years ago to when her best friend was murdered. She has always wanted to find Jack to avenge her friend's murder and this might give her the opportunity to do so.
But there are obstacles in her way. Inspector Croft doesn't want her anywhere near the crime scene after watching her grieve for the loss of her friend. But Fiona is determined to find the killer this time. She didn't count on being accosted or getting threatening letters. Will she be able to finish her task?
I don't normally stray from my normal reading of historical romance, but when one of your favorite authors tries something new, you go with it. I'm so glad that I did. Byrne's books always had an extra element of a mystery or side story to go along with the romance, so her foray into mysteries is not too far from her norm. While this story would be classified as a murder mystery, there is some sexual tension between Fiona and another character that could lead to her getting a HEA sometime during this series. I'm so glad that I picked up this book and I can't wait to see what Fiona gets into with the next book in the series.
