How to Bewitch an Earl by Ally Broadfield

How to Bewitch an Earl by Ally Broadfield

This is book 2 in the How To series.

Miss Isabella Winthrop is just trying to make enough money as a companion to help her brother pay off their debts. But when she ends up at a house party with nothing to do, she ends up helping to try and solve the mystery of the missing heirloom. Which of course means that she spends quite a bit of time with Edward Adair, the heir to the Duke of Boulstridge.

Edwards parents are demanding that he marry, but all he wants to do is find the missing heirloom. He didn't count on getting help from the beguiling Isabella. Paying Isabella to pose as his indented keeps the other guests out of the way but he didn't count on being so attracted to his partner in crime.

Will their pretend betrothal become one in truth?

I enjoyed this story.  I did really liked all the bantering between Isabella and Edward. This story had the right combination of romance with just enough mystery added in to make it just that much more interesting.

I can't wait to see what Broadfield has in store for us next!

The Highlander's Accidental Marriage by Callie Hutton

The Highlander's Accidental Marriage by Callie Hutton

This is book 6 in the Marriage Mart Mayhem series.

Lady Sarah Lacey has always let the dictates of society direct her choices, but when her carriage is wrecked and her maid gets sick she throws it all out the door to see her sister in Scotland. WIth no other avenue to take, she convinces Professor Braeden McKinnon to take her the rest of the way to her destination. She didn't count on her saying a few little words binding her to a stranger for life.

Racing home to get a much anticipated letter, Braeden didn't need the added distraction and the extra time that it would take to escort Sarah to her sister, but he couldn't say no to her. What should have been a couple of days ride, ended up taking much longer and earning himself a bride.

Can this unlikely pair make a go of their marriage?

I really liked Braeden. He put up with a lot from Sarah; she was really pretty high handed with him. Although I didn't like Sarah at the beginning of the story, she did begin to grow on me.

I liked the concept of the story and thought is was different from others in this genre. Over all, it was a very enjoyable read.

The Striker by Monica McCarthy

The Striker by Monica McCarthy

This is book 10 in the Highland Guard series.

Eoin "Striker" MacLean and Margaret MacDowell are on opposite sides in a broken Scotland, but they can't seem to fight the attraction they feel for each other. Soon married, Eion must go fight for the Bruce and leave his wife with his family.

Margaret is miserable living with Eoin family and eventually returns to her own family. But with misunderstanding on both sides, Eion and Margaret are soon torn apart.

Six year later, they reconnect. Can this second chance bring them the happiness they deserve?

I LOVED THIS STORY!! If was very hard to do the write up without giving up too much of the plot…so that is why it is one of my shorter ones.

The story starts at the time of their reunion and then goes back to their meeting. We see their struggles to make their marriage work and how tragedy ends it. When they are given a second chance, you can't help but cheer them on!

This is definitely one of my favorite series (even though I haven't read them all…must do that!!) The next book in the series, The Rock, is out on Dec. 29th.

Sweetest Scoundrel by Elizabeth Hoyt

Sweetest Scoundrel by Elizabeth Hoyt

This is book 9 in the Maiden Lane series.

Eve Dinwoody is monitoring the financing of the reopening of Harte's Folly for her brother. When she meets the owner of the pleasure garden for the first time, she is less than impressed. She soon finds herself butting heads with the infuriating man and to her surprise, wildly attracted to him.

Asa Makepeace doesn't need another person to deal with while trying to re-open Harte's Folly, especially an interfering aristocratic woman. But the more time he spends with Eve, finds Asa trying to deny the attraction between the two of them.

Can this unlikely pair make a go of it?

I've not really like Asa throughout this series, so I was wondering how Hoyt would change my mind about him when his story came around because you've got to like the hero of the story!!

She definitely made me see Asa in a different light than what was previously shown in the series. I ended up really liking him. I think his interactions with Eve brought out the true Asa that was hidden behind a hurt young man (not to get into too many details, don't want to ruin the story for you!).

I loved Eve too. She was a generally a timid person, but when she butted heads with Asa I think that the real her truly came out. She had a job to do and wasn't going to let anyone or anything get in her way.

Of course, if you've read the previous stories in the series, you know that the opening of the pleasure gardens is not going to go smoothly…nothing about the project has. Which of course means many problems to solve along the way.

The next book in the series, Duke of Sin, is about Eve's brother the Duke of Montgomery. He is not really a very nice guy….Hoyt has a lot of work to do to convience me that he deserves his HEA, but I know I won't be disappointed!!! It comes out in May 2016.

Highland Heat by Jennifer Haymore

Highland Heat by Jennifer Haymore

This is book 2 in the Highland Knight series.

Following her sister to Waterloo, Lady Grace Carrington helps a wounded soldier after the battle. Even after getting him the medical treatment he needs, she can't seem to keep herself away from him, especially after the kiss they share. But knowing their class difference makes it impossible for them to explore their feelings, they walk away from each other.

Duncan MacKenzie is saved from the battlefield by an angel. After one taste of her, he doesn't think he can let her go. Knowing that it is for the best, he tries to forget about Grace. But the fates conspire to bring them together and they can't fight their attraction to one another any longer.

Can their love for each other survive the many obstacles ahead?

I enjoyed this story. As happens in love stories that cross class bounties, the H/H have that struggle on top of everything else they go through to get their HEA. With Duncan also a member of the Highland Knights, there was also mission of go on.

It was just the right amount of love story, angst, and mystery to satisfy any reader!

The Lost Soul of Lord Badewyn by Mia Marlowe

The Lost Soul of Lord Badewyn by Mia Marlowe

This is book 3 in the Order of the MUSE series.

When Meg Anthony's criminal relatives are close to finding her, the Duke of Camden sends her to a remote castle in Wales to protect her from them. Meg's unique gift of "finding" things means that they will not give up easily.

Meg is sent to the home of Lord Samuel Badewyn who is a Nephilim, part human and part fallen angel, as well as a watcher. Samuel is determined not to marry, but can't seem to fight his attraction to Meg.

With multiple forces working against them, can these two find the love that they both desperately need?

As with the other stories in the Order of the MUSE series, this is a paranormal historical romance. I didn't like this one as much as the others in the series, not because of the writing or story line, but because it has a little too much paranormal activities in it for my tastes.

I've really liked Meg since the beginning of the series and its nice to see her get her HEA.  She needed someone to care about her and only her, not someone that was using her for her abilities like her uncle and cousin were. Samuel was that man. He fought it as much as he could, but it was if there was a force pulling the two of them together.

I have a feeling I know who will be the star of the next book in the series, but I guess I'll have to wait and see. Regardless, I am excited to see what Marlowe comes up with next!

Miss Featherton's Christmas Prince by Ella Quinn

Miss Featherton's Christmas Prince by Ella Quinn

This is book 8 in the Marriage Game series.

After falling in love twice and having her heart broken, Meg Featherton is determined to marry a man who does not engage her heart. Having set her eyes on such a man, she sets out to find if they would suit. But she has another mission that occupies her time as well. She believes that a scoundrel is determined to win the hand of her best friend. She must see if he is worthy of her. What she doesn't know is that scoundrel is after her!

Damon, Marquis of Hawksworth, has determined that Meg will be his bride. He can't figure out why she seems immune to his charms. Determined to bring her to the altar, he does everything he can to convince her that he is not the man that everyone thinks he is.

Can Damon convince Meg that he is worth risking her heart again?

This is probably my favorite of Quinn's stories and I'm sad to say it is the last in the series.

I liked that we see a whole transformation of Damon throughout the story. He comes back from war and is bored because his father won't give him any responsibilities of the dukedom. Everyone ends up thinking he is a scoundrel. But while trying to woo Meg, he decides that she needs to know the real him and we see that he is a totally different person than the one we have been led to believe.

Meg is ready to give up on love. But she soon learns that if the right guy comes along it might be worth letting him into her heart. She realizes that she didn't really know her previous fiancee's, all she saw was what they wanted her to see. Which ended up not being who they truly were. This time she was able to learn about the real man behind the persona he showed the rest of the world and fell in love with him.

Of course we have an enjoyable appearance by our elder matchmaking ladies...another one in the books for them!!

Quinn is starting a new series starting in March of 2016!

His Pirate Seductress by Tamara Hughes

His Pirate Seductress by Tamara Hughes

But being held captive by an alluring woman has Thomas thinking of intriguing ways to gain his freedom and they soon give into their mutual attraction.

Can Catherine and Thomas find a way to use the Ruby Cross to get what both of them need?

I really liked that the pirate is this story was the female lead. It definitely put a different twist on the story.

Catherine wanted to use force to get Thomas to give her the cross, but when it came down to it she couldn't.

But she did have power over him in another way and she definitely used it to the best of her ability. Of course, then the tables were turned on her!! The chemistry between these two was red hot!!

I can't wait to see what Hughes come up with next!

Lady of Intrigue by Sabrina Darby

Lady of Intrigue by Sabrina Darby

This book 2 in the Group of Eight series.

Lady Jane Langley's carriage is wrecked on her way to meet her father. Coming to, in the middle of the wreckage, she sees one of her traveling companion's murdered. She soon learns that the murderer knows she saw him and he takes her hostage. Injured from the crash, she has no choice but to accept the menstrations of her captor.

Gerard Badeau should have killed Jane when he discovered that she could tell everyone that the crash was not an accident, but there was something about her that drew him to her. As the bastard son of a nobleman, Gerard was raised to be a spy and did not fit into Jane's world.

As Jane and Gerard grow closer during her convalescence, where will it lead? Gerard won't be accepted in Jane's world and she is not willing to give it up.

As I've mentioned before, I always like a good spy element when reading a romance novel. This story is a little different as Gerard was raised to be a spy and not simply trained as an adult. This life is all he knows. It is not until he meets Jane that he even knows that he wants something different.

I will say that Jane annoyed me a little. She claims to be in love with Gerard, but won't give up her place with the ton. That kind of turned me off from her. I'm thinking that if it were true love, she would do anything to be with her man. Because of this, Gerard was prepared to do what had to be done to secure a place for himself in society.

In the end, all worked out of course.... I'm looking forward to reading more about the Group of Eight in Darby's upcoming books!

Rise of a Legend by Amy Jarecki

Rise of a Legend by Amy Jarecki

This is book 1 in the Guardian of Scotland series.

Eva McKay is on an archaeological dig in Scotland when she unearths the seal of William Wallace. Having always been drawn to this historical figure, she is thrilled with her find. With the help of a stone, Eva is suddenly thrown back in time. She opens her eyes to find herself about to be run through with a sword. Of course, she is rescued by none other than William Wallace himself.

Eva soon learns that she must not change history, or she will be sent back to her own time. Wanting to learn as much as she can about William, she convinces him to let her travel with him and his group of soldiers. Spending quite a bit of time together, Eva and William fall in love.

What will happen to these time-crosses lovers?

I would probably classify this as a historical time-travel with a little bit of romance thrown in. If you look up when Wallace dies, you know that they aren't going to get their HEA. For me that is a must when reading a romance.

Now having said that, I did enjoy the book. But be warned, it ends abruptly because there is another book that continues their story. There is a ton of history that is told throughout the story and since I didn't know much about this specific time period, it kept me enthralled learning Wallace's history.
If you are looking for a purely historical romance, then this is not the book for you. Although there is some romance, it will not satisfy the romantic in you.

I definitely look forward to seeing how Jarecki ends this story knowing that Wallace doesn't have a happy ending.

Society's Most Scandalous Viscount by Anabelle Bryant

Society's Most Scandalous Viscount by Anabelle Bryant

This is book 3 in the Regency Charms series.

Benedict, Viscount "Kell" Kellaway, has gone to Brighton to get away from the latest scandal he and his father created. He finds solace away from the ton and on his beach. One evening he sees what he believes to be an apparition of a woman walking the beach. He returns the next night to find that it was actually a flesh and blood woman...one that seems to affect him as no other has before.

Angelica Curtis is spending the week with her grandmother. Dreading the moment she must return to London and learn what fate her father has planned for her, she walks the beach at night enjoying the freedom that will soon be lost. On one of those walks, she encounters Benedict. Feeling an instant attraction to him, she asks him for her first kiss knowing that she needs something to hold close to her heart in the years to come.

Can these two lost souls find what their heart desires in each other?

After learning more about Kell in Undone by his Kiss, I imagined that there had to be more to him than he showed the world at large. We already knew that he hated his parents and the scandals that they brought with them, but we really hadn't seen what those scandals did to Kell and how they made him into the man that he is. We definitely see a different side of the viscount in this story.

Angelica was just as defined by her father as Kell was by his. His religious beliefs kept her on the straight and narrow and it wasn't until she knew that he had plans for her that she ventured out to make some memories for herself.

I think the suffering that both Kell and Angelica went through drew them to each other. They both had horrible upbringings and I think they could sense a kindred soul in the other.

Another wonderful story by Bryant! It looks like the next book in the series will be out in early 2016 and I can't wait to read it!

The Sport of Baronets by Theresa Romain

The Sport of Baronets by Theresa Romain

This is book 1 in the Romance of the Turf series.

Sir Bartlett Crosby is determined to turn his family's finances around by winning races with his colt. But that is all about to change when Hannah Chandler claims to have purchased the horse from his mother. It gets even worse with the colt is stolen.

Now Bartlett and Hannah must work together to find the horse, but can members of two families that have been rivals for years get past that history to the benefit of both?

I did enjoy this novella, but it is definitely not my favorite of the stories I've read by Romain. I know it was short, but I feel like everything was rushed. There was not enough time for the H/H to get to know each other and therefore I didn't feel the chemistry between them like I did when reading the Matchmaker Trilogy by Romain.

The next book in the series comes out in February. I'm hoping it will be more like the other books by Romain that I have read and loved.

Daniel's True Desire by Grace Burrowes

Daniel's True Desire by Grace Burrowes

This is book 2 in the True Gentlemen series.

Daniel Banks is starting his life over with a new parish where he meets the intriguing Kristen Haddonfield. Unfortunately for them both, Daniel is married. He has been estranged from his wife for over a year, but that doesn't change the fact that he can't start something with Kristen.

Daniel and Kristen start working with some of the local boys on their studies and deportment but have to continue fighting their attraction for one another. With everything working against them, can they ever find their happily ever after?

I really enjoyed this story! It's not too often that the hero of your story is the local vicar. Since Daniel has a complicated past, he needed to be paired with an unconventional woman.
Kristen was definitely not your typical society miss. We see glimpses of this in Tremaine's True Love. She helps Daniel with boys and is basically his right hand man...err woman.

Definitely a great addition to the True Gentlemen series. I can't wait to read the next installment which comes out in February.
