Finding Gabriel by Rachel L. Demeter

Finding Gabriel by Rachel L. Demeter

Haunted by his memories, Colonel Gabriel de Laurent tries to take his own life. Things didn't go as planned and he is found by Ariah Larochelle on the banks of the River Seine. Thinking that he was attacked, Ariah takes Gabriel back to her place to nurse him back to health.

Recognizing a kindred soul in each other, Gabriel and Ariah become close. But people and experiences in their past keep finding their way into their lives.

Can Gabriel and Ariah overcome their past to get their HEA?

This was a much darker novel than I usually read, but I did really enjoy it. Demeter is an excellent writer and her descriptions of the scenes in the story had me had me imagining myself in the very place.

This is definitely not a light hearted read, but I definitely recommend reading it!

Wedding Matilda by Heather Hiestand

Wedding Matilda by Heather Hiestand

This is book 6 in the Redcakes series.

Working for the Radcakes is the only life that Ewan Hales has known. Just as he is about to get a big promotion,  Ewan finds out that he is heir to the Earl of Fitzwalter. Just as he is about to turn in her resignation, he encounters Matilda Redcake. Having always been a working class man, he wasn't good enough for her. But now that he is heir to an earldom, he might just have a chance.

Having come to London seeking answers about a bad batch of cakes, Matilda is surprised to see Ewan a little out of sorts (finding out you are someone's heir after being alone for most of your life, will do that do you!). Trying to find a solution to their cake problem, they find themselves falling for each other.

Will it all fall apart when Matilda finds her son has been kidnapped?

I liked this story. We have the romance between Ewan and Matilda as well as the mystery of who kidnapped Matilda's son. The pace is pretty quick and kept me eagerly reading to the very end. It was also nice to see some of the characters from the previous books and learn where their lives have taken them.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series which stars Matilda's cousin, Greggory.

This was a pretty quick read (165 pgs). There was intrigue, bad guys and a romance. Not much else to ask for in a story!!

This is a great start to a new series by DeHart!!

You're the Earl That I Want by Kelly Bowen

You're the Earl That I Want by Kelly Bowen

This is book 3 in the Lords of Worth series.

Heath Hextall, the Earl of Boden, has decided it is time to get married. With the scandals that have followed his family, he decides he needs an even-tempered wife that can take care of his household and bring some respectability to his family. His best friend, the Duke of Worth, finds the perfect candidate whom Heath immediately starts to court.

Lady Josephine (Joss) Somerhall, the Duke of Worth's sister, is back in town after traveling the world for many years. Having known Joss as a little girl, Heath is intrigued by the woman she has become. They are completely wrong for each other (Joss doesn't want the restraint a marriage would put on her and she definitely is not the even-tempered wife that Heath is looking for), but they can't seem to fight the attraction that sizzles between them whenever they are in the same room together.

Will marriage to each other allow Joss the freedom she wants and give Heath the respectability he desires?

LOVED this story!! Joss was a refreshing heroine that didn't follow society's dictates and Heath was not your typical lord.

Joss was the perfect woman to match a man with a title to wasn't meant to be his. A respectable gentleman of the ton would have squashed Joss's personality and she would have been miserable (hence her desire not to get married!) Heath thought he wanted a nice, biddable wife that would bring him the respect that he thought he should receive now that he had the title. He thought that it would wash away the taint of being a merchant. They soon realize that they need each other for more than their attraction to one another.

I hope that Bowen is not done with this series, as I have found that it is one of my favorites to date!

The Madness of Lord Westfall by Mia Marlowe

The Madness of Lord Westfall by Mia Marlowe

This is book 2 in the Order of the Muse series.

Pierce Langdon, Viscount Westfall, spent many years in Bedlam until he was rescued by the Duke of Camden and joined the Order of the Muse. He soon learned that the knock on the head that he received during his childhood didn't actually make him mad, he truly could hear the voices of the people around him. He soon learns how to put a wall up to ignore the voices and how to take it down when necessary. Part of his job as a member of the Order is to help take down individuals trying to hurt the government or its leaders. One such job leads him to Lady Nora Claremont.

Once a respectable lady, Nora has become a lord's mistress in order to survive. She is use to men coming on to her, but the viscount seems different. She soon learns just how different he really is. Even though she has a protector, she can't help but be attracted to Pierce and is soon tangled in his case.

Has Nora finally met the man that will give her the life that she was meant to live, one with a family and respectability?

Before you pick this up, make sure you know that it is a paranormal historical romance. It's not my normal cup of tea, but I have really enjoyed this series.

I was intrigued by Lord Westfall while reading book 1 in the series, The Curse of Lord Stanstead. So much so, that I had to immediately started reading this one after finishing it. I was intrigued by the fact that he could read minds and that he had a very reserved personality. I couldn't wait to meet the woman that he would open up to.

I really liked Nora. She did what she had to do to survive. She was left on her own and woman of that time didn't have many options for survival. She was leary of Pierce when they first met and who can blame her after what she had gone through. After she finally opened herself up to Pierce, she knew she had found the man for her.

Without giving away too much, Pierce did something huge to get Nora her freedom from her protector. major swoon!!

I can't wait to see what happens in the next book in the series!

Stanville is finally willing to let him have it, but it comes with a price. Percival must marry the his daughter. Desperate to get his estate back, Percival will do the one thing he never thought to do again...get married.

Lady Letitia's scandal cost her a fiance and her reputation. Her father has no use for her and demands that she marry the local squire. She is resigned to her fate and agrees to have a "white" marriage with Percival. But things change when both of them realize how strong their attraction for each other is.

Can this marriage of convenience turn into a once in a lifetime love?

It's hard to believe that this is Clement's first novel. Most authors take a few novels to get into their groove, but Clement hit a homerun her first time up to bat! The story was engaging, heartfelt and had a bit of intrigue. A perfect combination!

I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

Tremaine's True Love by Grace Burrowes

Tremaine's True Love by Grace Burrowes

This is book 1 in the True Gentlemen series.

Tremaine St. Michael is only visiting the Earl of Haddonfield to try and purchase his sheep from him. Tremaine has made raising sheep his life and doesn't have time for romance. He didn't count on being attracted to the earl's sister. But from the moment they meet, their lonely hearts seemed to be drawn to each other.

Lady Nita had been running her brother's household until he recently got married. Now she spends her time helping her neighbors with their medical issues, against the wishes of her brother. She has found her passion and defies her brother at every turn to make sure that even the poor get the best medical care possible.

Can two people so passionate about their "careers"find room in their lives for love?

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this story!!!  The story was fast paced with multiple stories weaved in (Nita's sisters).

We have a strong willed female lead that will do just about anything to follow her passion. Not only is it rare that women would be in medicine during this time period, but someone of Nita standing in society would not normally practice medicine either.

I really liked Tremaine too. Definitely a man to fall in love with.

I can't wait to read the next book in the series, Daniel's True Desire, which comes out in November.

Lady Emily's Exotic Journey by Lillian Marek

Lady Emily's Exotic Journey by Lillian Marek

This is book 2 in the Victorian Adventures series.

Lady Emily Tremaine is traveling to the fabled ruins of Ninevah with her family. Wanting to feel more alive than she does in the ballrooms of London, she embarks on the journey full of hope. She didn't count on finding love in the dangerous desert they traveled.

Adventurer, Lucian Chambertin, has attached himself to the Tremaine party and will help to escort them to their destination. He soon realizes that Emily is not like other society misses and they quickly become friends. But Lucian soon finds himself having some very un-friend like thoughts about Emily. He is not ready to settle down and tries to keep his feeling at bay. Lucian has been traveling the world to runaway from issues at home, but they soon find him nonetheless.

What will happen as this couple travels through the distant and foreign lands? Can Lucian solve his issues with his family to find the HEA he didn't know that he wanted?

I enjoyed this story a lot. I loved that the story took place somewhere other than the ballrooms in London. We get to see how others, not usually included in historical romances, lived during this period of time. It was definitely a nice change of pace.

I also liked that Emily and Lucian became friends first. They had many weeks of travel that allowed them to converse and learn more about each other before they noticed the red hot attraction that eventually burned between them.

I can't wait to see what destination Marek has planned for use next!!

If He's Noble by Hannah Howell

If He's Noble by Hannah Howell

This is book 7 in the Wherlocke series.

Lady Primrose "Rose" Wooten must find her brother, but she keeps getting waylaid by men her aunt sent after her. During her travels, she runs into Sir Bened Vaughn. Not wanting any help, she turns down his offer to travel with her. But Bended insists and Rose has a hard time telling him no.

Like the rest of the members of his family, Bened has special abilities. He can sense when danger when it is coming and protect those that are with him. With Rose's aunt sending men to chase after her, his ability came in handy.

Can Rose find her brother and stay out of the clutches of her Aunt's men?

Loved this story, just as I have the rest of the series. I have been looking forward to Bened's story since he was first introduced in the series.

Rose and Bened's attraction for each other was almost instantaneous. Unfortunately Bened tried to ignore it as Rose was not of his class (she was nobility). Those stubborn men for you!! I really liked Rose. She was definitely not your typical lady of the times. She knew she had to find her brother before her aunt did and set out to find him on her own. Luckily for her (and us), she found Bened along the way.

I really hope to see more of Lilybet (a Wherlocke that was found in the course of the story) as she was a breathe of fresh air. Her story would definitely be an interesting one!!

Dangerous by Monica Burns

This is book 2 in the Reckless Rockwoods series.

Constance Athelson, Viscountess Westbury, spent one night in the arms of a stranger but quickly ran away after seeing a disturbing sight when touching him.  You see, Constance "sees" things. She sees events that have occurred in the past and events that have yet to occur. She can also talk to ghosts. Knowing that the stranger will try to find her, she goes into hiding in the country working for the Earl of Lyndham. What she doesn't know is that her new employer is none other than her "stranger."

Lucien Blakemore, wants to see the progress his new employee has made in cataloguing his artifacts. He is shocked to learn that the person he hired is actually a woman. He soon learns that she is also the mystery woman that he has searched high and low for.

With a family curse over his head, Lucien can't let himself get too close to Constance. But as they spend more and more time with each other, it appears he is losing his heart. Can he break the curse that has plagued his family to find the love of a lifetime?

Loved this story!! It is a paranormal historical romance, which is not normally my cup of tea. But having been a big fan of Ghost Whisperer and Medium, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The attraction between Constance and Lucien was red hot! Definitely a steamy read!

I always love a good mystery added to my romance stories and Burns did not disappoint! Definitely a must read!

Hearing that the man she loves has chosen another, Caroline Edwards says yes to the offer made to her. If she can't have the man that she loves, she might as well get married and have children that she can love.

They soon learn that someone is threatening Stephen's life. Can these newlyweds defeat their enemy and begin their HEA?

LOVED this story!! This is my first my Davidson and if definitely won't be my last. The story was filled with banter between the H/H (which I always love), sizzling hot chemistry and mysterious happenings. What a great combination!!

I can't wait to read the next book in the series, which stars Caroline's brother, George.

The Curse of Lord Stanstead by Mia Marlowe

The Curse of Lord Stanstead by Mia Marlowe

This is book 1 in the Order of the MUSE series.

Everywhere she goes lately, Cassandra Darkin sees fires being started. What she doesn't know is that she is causing them.  Garrett Sterling has been sent to fetch Cassandra for the Order of the MUSE, a group of paranormals trying to save the country from supernatural powers. Cassandra soon learns that she is a fire mage (she can tame fire).

Garrett has been assigned as Cassandra's partner. As fire mages get built up energy, they need to have it released. Hence why Garrett steps up to the plate... Cassandra ignores Garrett's nightly knock to relieve her tension not wanting to relive the one experience she has had with a man. But as she gets to know Garrett and spend time with him, she decides to let him help her.

As they try to foil a plot to harm the Prince Regent, they become closer to each other. Can two "special" people find a love that neither of them was looking for?

Let me start this with the fact that it is a paranormal historical romance.  I picked it up having liked Marlowe's previous work and not knowing it was a paranormal. I'm not normally a fan of paranormal, but I did enjoy this book and look forward to reading more of the series.

On top of the plot to save the country, we have a story of a bad boy being tamed by the right woman which is always a good read. Garrett was happy to help Cassandra with her "problem" as he was attracted to her. But it soon became much more than that. He needed to be close to her in body and mind.

After one disastrous encounter with the opposite sex, Cassandra was not looking for a physical relationship. But she didn't count on the feelings that being around Garrett evoked and soon gave in to their nightly sessions.

I loved the secondary characters of this book and can't wait to read Lord Westfall's story which comes out at the end of the month.

Lady Beresford's Lover by Ella Quinn

Lady Beresford's Lover by Ella Quinn

This is book 7 in the Marriage Game series.

Even though he wants to fall in love, Rupert, the Earl of Stanstead has decided to avoid entanglements for the time being. Having had his heart broken one too many times, enough is enough. But then Vivian comes in to his life and all bets are off.

After being verbally abused and told that she was unattractive and deformed by her first husband, Vivian, Countess of Beresford, can't imagine that anyone would find her attractive. After an encounter with Rupert at a masquerade party, Vivian decides to have an affair with him. Always in her masquerade costume when they meet, Vivian doesn't think that Rupert knows who she is.

Can they find the passion they have in the nights to start a real life together that doesn't include hidden identities?

This is probably my favorite of the Marriage Game series. We've seen Rupert throughout the series and I had hoped that he would find his HEA.

I was an interesting twist that Vivian thought that Rupert was courting her during the day and seducing Cleopatra by night. It allowed Vivian to come out of her shell in a way that wouldn't have happened had they just been courting as herself during the day and at society functions.

As with others in the series, we have a secondary love story between the new Lord Beresford and Vivian's friend Sylvia. I loved reading their story just as much as Rupert and Vivian's.

The Brigadier's Runaway Bride by Erica Ridley

The Brigadier's Runaway Bride by Erica Ridley

This is book 5 in the Dukes of War series.

To secure her future, Miss Sarah Fairfax, is marrying her former intended's best friend. What else can she do after finding herself pregnant and her fiancee killed during the war. No one is more surprised than Sarah, when her former intended shows up at her wedding determined to get her back.

Brigadier Edmund Blackpool was left for dead on the battlefield. Fighting to get his way back home, the image of Sarah is the only thing that got him through. He can't believe that she is marrying his best friend and is about to have a baby. But he won't give up without a fight and quickly marries Sarah.

But a lot has changed in 9 months. They are about to have a baby. Can these two lovers find their way back to each other?

This is definitely different than the other books in the Duke of War series or other historical romances for that matter. Sarah and Edmund quickly find themselves parents and a lot of the story revolves around them adjusting to being parents and finding that spark again.

While I did enjoy the story, it definitely isn't my favorite of the series. Captain Blackheart's story is up next. I can't wait to read it. He has intrigued me since we first met him in The Earl's Defiant Wallflower.
