Undone by His Kiss by Anabelle Bryant

Undone by His Kiss by Anabelle Bryant

This is book 2 in the Regency Charmes series.

Determined to never marry because she would end up having to give up her independance, Emily Shaw rents a room to hold meetings of her Women's League. She never counted on being attracted to the downstairs tenant.

Jasper St David is just trying to make a go of his new business. He definitely didn't have time to be distracted by his beautiful upstairs neighbor. Learning that Emily is determined not to allow a man to distract her from her future, Jasper sets out to challenge that belief.

Can this unlikely duo find a middle ground in which they find the love they weren't looking for?

Loved this story!! I wasn't too impressed with Jasper when he was in Defying the Earl. He just seemed to be out for the quick buck and it didn't bother him that his family didn't have any money. He just kept spending it.

We see a different side of him in this story. In Defying, we see Jasper through his brother's eyes. Now we see the real him. He is trying his hardest to make a name for himself and to start a legitimate business. He wants it to go well to prove to his brother that the money he earn to bring them back from financial disaster wasn't a fluke. That is not to say that the carefree young man is gone, because he isn't. We see his playfulness come out when he is with Emily.

Emily has developed a distrust of men after what her father did to her and her mother. She doesn't want to have to count on another man to give her the things she needs. She wants to do it on her own. She doesn't like that she is falling for Jasper because she thinks that makes her weak. Jasper makes her realize that this isn't true. Just because you have a man in your life, it doesn't mean that you have no say about what goes on in it.

Another great read by Bryant!! I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

What To Do With A Duke by Sally MacKenzie

What To Do With A Duke by Sally MacKenzie

This is book 1 in the Spinster House series.

Miss Isabelle Catherine (Cat) Hutting is desperate to get out of her parent's home. Not that she doesn't love her family, she does. But there are so many people in the family that she never gets any time to do what she dreams of...to write a book.

When the Spinster House is suddenly vacated, her dreams seem to be coming true. Unfortunately, two other spinsters also want the house. She also doesn't count on being attracted to the owner of the house, when he shows up in town to see to the leasing of his property.

Haunted by a curse given by the original owner of Spinster House stating that "No duke shall live to see his heir's birth", Marcus, the Duke of Hart, is prepared to spend a couple of days in town to find a new resident and then be on his merry way.  He didn't count on falling for a woman who had no plans of getting married.

What can two people who didn't ever plan on getting married do when they fall for each other?

I loved this story!! We were introduced to Cat in In the Spinster's Bed and I had hoped we would see more of her. She is older and I think this always makes for a more interesting character. Then we have Marcus, who is definitely not ready to marry especially when it means his certain death.

I liked reading the transformation of these two characters going from not wanting to marry to falling in love with each other. I can't wait to read about the next resident of Spinster House!

The Prince and I by Karen Hawkins

The Prince and I by Karen Hawkins

This is book 2 in the Oxenburg Princes series.

Gregori "Max" Romanovin and his grandmother are stopped by highwaymen on their way to a house party. Max knows that there is something "off" about the highwaymen and is determined to figure out what it is. He soon learns that the leader of the thieves is a young widow named Murian.

Lady Murian was kicked out of her home after her husband's death. With no where else to go, she and her retainers made a life for themselves in the forest. She and the others steal from the guests of the man who stole her home just to survive. When Max finds out that she is the one that robbed him, they find that they have a common enemy. Max and his men begin helping Murian and her people fix up their village while trying to figure out a plan to solve both their problems.

Neither one is looking for anything permanent, but after spending so much time together they are drawn to each other. Can they vanquish their enemy and find a love they didn't know they wanted?

I've read other Robin Hood re-makes, but I don't think any of them have had a woman as "Robin." Hawkins did an awesome job reversing the rolls with her latest book.

I loved, loved, loved Max!!!  He is definitely the type of guy to make a lady swoon!! Who wouldn't love a guy that sees something that needs fixed and rolls up his sleeves and gets busy doing it. The fact that he was a royal prince and didn't see anything wrong with it, made it that much better.

Max's grandmother, Grand Duchess Natasha Nikolaevna, is just as feisty as ever. She is up to her old tricks too. Love that woman!!

Murian is also a character I really liked. She is kicked out of her home and has no where to go. She and her friends make the best of a horrible situation. Most women of her station would have not known what to do. Murian took charge and helped her people survive.

Definitely one of my favorite books by Hawkins and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

Must Love Chainmail by Angela Quarles

Must Love Chainmail by Angela Quarles

This is book 2 in the Must Love Time Travel series.

On a trip to Wales with her bridesmaids, Katy Tolson is suddenly whisked back in time to medieval Wales. For someone that is attached to her phone like Katy is, this is a rude awakening for her. She quickly figures out what is was that transported her back in time, but when a handsome knight rescues her from an upcoming battle her opportunity to retrieve it is lost.

Sir Robert Beucol, a half-Norman and half-Welsh knight, is trying to get the attention of the King so he can get his lands back. By fighting the Welsh, he is showing his loyalty to the crown. He hasn't the time to be distracted by the comely woman he rescued, but he can't seem to stay away from her.

Will Katy find her way home or will her attraction to the handsome knight make her forget her quest?

I always love a good time travel and this was no exception. This is my second book by Quarles and I enjoyed it as much as the first.

I really liked Robert. He was the type of man that I would consider to be a "Knight in Shining Armor". He rescued Katy a few times and was always the perfect gentleman.

Overall, an enjoyable read!

A Sword for His Lady by Mary Wine

A Sword for His Lady by Mary Wine

This is book 1 in the Courtly Love series.

Ramon de Segrave has been fighting for King Richard for many years. He is surprised to be asked to go woo a lady for her castle instead of going on the next Crusade. He is pleasantly surprised when he meets Isabel of Camoys, but she wants nothing to do with him.

Isabel enjoys being a widow and being in charge of herself and her estate. She resents Ramon coming onto her land and trying to convince her to change her mind about re-marrying. But when someone tries to take it all way, she turns to Ramon for help.

Can Ramon defend the keep and win the hand of the fair Isabel?

I enjoyed this story. I always love a story where their is a strong heroine who doesn't follow the "rules" of society. I love that Isabel made her estate profitable with ideas that were her own and that she was able to keep her people living a more comfortable life than others of the same station.

Ramon was very likable too. I think he came into the situation thinking that "the widow" would be happy to be taken care of, but he quickly learned his mistake. He then went about trying to show Isabel why she should marry him.

Overall, a very delightful read.
