The Spring Bride by Anne Gracie

The Spring Bride by Anne Gracie

This is book 3 in the Chance Sisters series.

Jane Chance is about to make her debut, but before she can she gets an offer of marriage from a wealthy lord. He represents everything she has ever wanted:  a husband, money to secure her future and the chance of children. That is until she meets Zachary Black and he turns her world upside down.

Zach is not what Jane needs to secure her future. He is a gypsy that helps her rescue a dog, not someone she would consider marrying. But what she doesn't know, is that Zach is a wealthy lord himself. Unfortunately, this former spy is wanted for murder and must keep his identity a secret until he finds evidence of his innocence.

Can Zach keep Jane from marrying long enough to clear his name and claim her as his own?

I had never read anything by Anne Gracie before this series. When finding out it was book three in a series, I quickly checked out the other two books from the library. Book one had me hooked and I quickly read the next two.

Falling in love with all the "sisters" in book one, had me eagerly wanted to read each of their stories. Jane has always wanted security when choosing a spouse. I thought that she might change her mind after watching her sisters fall in love. But her childhood memories of struggling just to survive were more powerful than the lure of love. It was interesting to watch her inner struggle with what her mind wanted and what her heart was telling her to do. I was also fun to watch the "bad boy" fall in love and get something he never thought he wanted.

Of course this series wouldn't be the same without Lady Bea and her outrageous stories and meddling ways. I think I'd like to see her get her HEA too!!

I can't wait to read Daisy's story! She is such a colorful person and doesn't hold anything back. Her match will definitely have to be strong willed!

At the Spy's Pleasure by Tina Gabrielle

At the Spy's Pleasure by Tina Gabrielle

This is book 2 in the Crown's Secret Service series.

After years of marriage to a selfish gambler, Jane, the widowed countess of Stanwell is ready to take a lover. She has made a list of candidates and is slowly making her decision. When Gareth Ramsey gets ahold of her list, he asks her to put his name on it.

Gareth has been attracted to Jane since the first time he saw her. Working for the home office doesn't give him time for a wife, but a lover, he has time for. Getting close to Jane is part of the job,  her list includes a man he is investigating, but it definitely has it's perks.

But what happens when Gareth's lust for Jane turns into something much stronger? Jane is tired of men lying to her and Gareth's whole life is a lie. Can he save what they started?

Loved this story. I've been reading a lot of stories lately that include the male or female lead as a spy. I think that element just adds to the overall enjoyment of the story.

Seeing the tension between Jane and Gareth in the first book in the series, A Spy Unmasked, I had hoped that Gabrielle would pair them up for this story. I was not disappointed! The banter between the H/H is masterful and is always a plus (something that is always a favorite in my book!)

I can't wait to see what Gabrielle has in store for us next!!

Never Resist a Rake by Mia Marlowe

Never Resist a Rake by Mia Marlowe

This is book 2 in the Somerfield Park series.

John Fitzhugh Barrett is suddenly thrown into a life that he never wanted. Being declared the legitimate heir to the Somerset marquessate has John running to London to forget that he was an unwanted child. Drowning his feeling in debauchery, he encounters Rebecca Kearsey in a seedy underground fighting ring. Recognizing her as a lady, he does what is necessary to "win" her.

John's family uses Rebecca to get him to come to the family seat. They want him to find a suitable bride. He agrees to go on the condition that Rebecca and her family are also invited. He wants at least one ally while he treads the waters of his new world.

What happens when this unlikely duo can't fight their attraction any longer?

I really enjoyed this story. There was a different dynamic with this story as John has not been raised in the aristocracy and didn't have the same mentality as most in his position would. Rebecca is the daughter of a viscount, but since the family has no money she doesn't really fit into polite society either. They complimented each other very nicely.

I hope that Marlowe continues this series, as I have really enjoyed the characters in them.

The Beautiful One by Emily Greenwood

The Beautiful One by Emily Greenwood

This is book 1 in the Scandalous Sisters series.

Finding out the someone has made nude drawings of her, Anna Black must find some way to hide from society. She takes a job as a seamstress at a girl's school, but soon finds herself acting as the companion to the ward of Viscount Grandville.

Will Halifax, Viscount Grandville, doesn't want his ward (Lizzy) and her companion in his home. Lizzy reminds him too much of his dead wife. Having closed himself off on his estate, he doesn't like his solitude taken away from him. Realizing that he has no where to send Lizzy, he convinces Anna to stay until he can find another companion or school to send her to.

Anna soon realizes that Will and Lizzy need each other. They are both in pain from losing loved ones. What happens when Anna realizes she needs Will too?

I enjoyed this story. The tension of Anna being found by the owner of the sketches added another dimension to it. You're never quite sure when it will happen, but you know that it will cause some drama.

Will has closed himself off after losing his wife. He had been in love with her and didn't want to go through the pain of losing another loved one, so he closed himself off from everyone else. We see Anna trying to break through that hard exterior to get Will to connect with Lizzy and in turn she falls for him herself.

I look forwarding to reading book two in the series, which comes out in March 2016.

Duty and Desire by Elise DeSallier

Duty and Desire by Elise de Sallier

This is book 2 in the Hearts of Honour series.

Jonathan Loring has no one else to turn to when his son's illness doesn't get any better. Having scorned the resident midwife and herbalist since he has known her, he must humble himself to ask for her help. He doesn't expect to find himself attracted to the healer.

Grace Daniels has been rejected by society since her father passed away. Her illegitimacy and her career keep society from accepting her in their ranks. All except Viscount and Viscountess Blackthorn whom she saved from certain death. They have even helped her set up her practice in their little town.

When Jonathan goes to Grace for help with his son, she does it for the sake of the boy. She would never let a child suffer because of the choices that adults make. But as the two foes spend more time with each other, they realize they have more in common than they could ever imagine and their attraction for each other soon becomes too hard to deny.

I enjoyed meeting Jonathan and Grace in Passion and Propriety. I had a feeling that de Sallier would match them together. I could see the chemistry between the two of them even then.

Loved this story. I like a man that will do anything for his child and admit when he is wrong! I loved watching Grace and Jonathan go from foes to lovers. To see the attraction blossom and watch them fall in love.

I hope that de Sallier continues with this series as there are several characters that I would like to see get their HEA!

The Major's Faux Fiancee by Erica Ridley

The Major's Faux Fiancee by Erica Ridley

This is book 4 in the Dukes of War series.

Major Bartholomew Blackpool came back from war without a leg and his twin brother. Having retreated from society, he ignores all his friends and family. That is until he receives a letter from a childhood friend.

Miss Daphne Vaughan reaches out to Bartholomew when she has no one else to turn to. Her guardian is forcing her to get married to get her out of his hair. She proposes a plan to Bartholomew, in which he will pose as her fiancee until she get her inheritance. At that point, they will break their betrothal and both of them will be free.

When the time comes for their break-up, neither wants to ruin the reputation of the other. But what would happen if they made their engagement real?

Loved the story!!

Daphne was a different type of heroine. She was a crusader that championed the lower classes instead of ridiculing them as others in her class did at that time.

I loved watching Daphne bring out the "old" Bartholomew. The man that he was before the war. She saw glimpses at that man and made sure to do what she could to bring him out more.

I'm very excited to read the next book in the series which comes out in September!
