Never Surrender to a Scoundrel by Lily Dalton

Never Surrender to a Scoundrel by Lily Dalton

This is book 3 in the One Scandalous Season series.

Lady Clarissa Bevington is excited for her coming out. What no one else knows is that she will be announcing her engagement that night also. Just as she is set to appear at her ball, she is given the devastating news that her secret intended has married another. Passing out at the news, the rakehell Kincraig comes to her rescue by whisking her off to another room followed by her family.

Lord Donovan Blackmer has been masquerading for the last two years as Kincraig to protect Clarissa's grandfather. Having grown close to the family, he is there when Clarissa needs help. But he didn't count on having to marry her to provide that help. After several misunderstandings by Clarissa's family, Donovan agrees to marry her to save her from ruin.

Can this marriage ever turn into true love after such a rocky start?

So at the end of Never Entice an Earl, we learn that Kincraig is not who we think he is. I was so excited to see where Dalton would take this and she did not disappoint.  As with her other stories, there are many twists and turns and a few surprises that pop up. This is definitely one of my favorites reads!

I don't want to give away too much of the story so I won't say much more than this:  Go buy the book!! You will definitely enjoy it!

The Devil Takes a Bride by Julia London

The Devil Takes a Bride by Julia London

This is book 2 in the Cabot Sisters series.

Trying to save her family, Grace Cabot has a plan to trap a man into marriage. What she didn't count on was trapping the wrong man. Finding out that Geoffrey, the Earl of Marryton, was the man that she shared a passionate embrace with was quite to shock to Grace. Having thought to trap his brother, Grace is unsure about marrying Geoffrey. But as she has no other choice, she will make the best out of the situation.

Geoffrey had no plans to marry someone like Grace. She plows right into his very organized life and changes everything. Unable to resist her, Geoffrey must decide if she is worth an unordered life.

I really liked this story, but parts of it went a little too far for me.

Geoffrey's life was so ordered because he was OCD. I could handle that. What I didn't like were his sexual fantasies. With every young attractive woman he encountered, he had fantasies about them doing things to him and to each other.  I could see putting that out there a little bit, but it just seemed a little over the top for me.

Even saying that, I did quite enjoy the story. I just tended to gloss over his "fantasies." I look forward to reading the next book in the series that comes out in April.

The Midnight Rake by Anabelle Bryant

The Midnight Rake by Anabelle Bryant

The author doesn't have the books linked as a series, but it has characters from To Love a Wicked Scoundrel and Duke of Darkness.

Penelope Rosebery and her sister have been left penniless by her disreputable fiancee. Hoping to find him in London, they are waylaid by a broken axle when the Viscountess of Fenhurst comes to their rescue. Inviting them to join her to London, she eventually gives them shelter in her son's home.

Phineas Betchum is surprised to find his mother and her guests in his home. Having promised his mother to help, he is now required to escort Penelope around town in hopes of her finding her missing fiancee. Having no desire to marry, Phineas is dismayed to realize how strong of an attraction he feels for Penelope.

Can Phineas help Penelope with her problem before he secums to her charm?

I definitely enjoyed this story as much as the other two in the series. It was also nice to see the characters from the other stories again.

I liked Penelope. She was a very strong woman to take off on her own to try to get justice for herself. Phineas was very likeable too. It was interesting to watch him struggle with what he thought he wanted and what his heart knew he needed.

Bryant did a good job of adding a bit of a mystery to the story to keep it interesting.  There is one last friend in the group, so I'm assuming that his story will come next. I look forward to seeing what Bryant has in store for us.

Having been warned by her governess of the evil of men, Charity to leary of staying in James' cabin but she doesn't have any other options. As the two spend time together, their mutual attraction grows.  Can they get to safely before they are found out?

This is my first book by Tamara Hughes and I did enjoy it.  I always love a good pirate story and this one was pretty good.

I will say that I felt like almost everything James said to Charity for the first half of the book alluded to sex. I thought that was a little strange. He knew she was scared and apprehensive about being in a room with him, why did he need to go on and on about it...

Having said that I still look forward to the next book which will be about James' missing brother.

The Baron's Betrayal by Callie Hutton.

The Baron's Betrayal by Callie Hutton.

This is book 4 in the Marriage Mart Mayhem series.

Lady Marion Tunstall has been mourning her husband for two years and is finally ready to re-enter society.  Having decided to go to a country dance she is shocked to see her not so dead husband and faints dead away.

Lord Tristan Tunstall never planned to let his wife know he was alive. Having become blind in battle, he believes that his wife is better off without him.  When he tries to dissolve the marriage, Marion refuses. She wants her husband no matter that he is blind. They married through sickness and health!

Can Marion convince Tristan that their marriage is worth saving?

I loved Marion! Here is a woman who has spent 2 years grieving for the love of her life. She is finally ready to go out into society and what happens? Her not so dead husband.

Tristan on the other hand was another story. I just couldn't like him. He claims to love his wife as much as he ever did, but refuses to stay married to her. He believes that he can't be the kind of husband and father that Marion needs him to be.  I honestly feel like he was just feeling sorry for himself and then he made life decisions for both him and Marion. Which in any loving, committed relationship (which he supposedly had with Marion), you just don't do.

Tristan did redeem himself a little at the end of the story, but I still didn't like him much. I'm giving this book 3 stars because I really did enjoy Marion.

Secrets of a Scandalous Heiress by Theresa Romain

Secrets of a Scandalous Heiress by Theresa Romain.

This is book 3 in the Matchmaker Trilogy.

Heiress Augusta Meredith is in Bath to find a lover. But because of her notoriety, she is posing as the Widow Mrs. Flowers. Hoping to find a lover without anyone else the wiser, she is dismayed to encounter someone from London that she knows. Joss Everett knows who she is and calls her out on her charade.

Hoping he will keep her secret, she offers to help him with his task of finding a buyer of some land his is trying to see for his employer. Having already turned down Augusta's offer to be her lover, Joss finds himself becoming more and more attracted to her.

Can Augusta keep her identity a secret and find a lover or will the attraction that she feels for Joss consume them both?

I really enjoyed the conclusion to Romain's Matchmaker trilogy.  I like stories that are in the world of the ton, but feature an unlikely H/H.

Romain's addition of a blackmailer just made the story that much more interesting and kept me reading to the very end to see who it was (big surprise!) I also liked that the H/H got to know each other as friends first.  Augusta proposed that Joss become her lover and after he turns her down, they proceed to develop a friendship that ultimately lead to love.

I'm excited to see what Romain has in store for us next!
