Fool Me Twice by Meredith Duran

Fool Me Twice by Meredith Duran.

This is book 2 in the Rules for the Reckless series.

Olivia must find evidence against the man that is trying to kill her. The only way to get a hold of it is to infiltrate the Duke of Marwick's home.  What better way than as a housemaid? When she arrives to interview for the position, she finds the household in need of a housekeeper and since that position will allow her access to the whole house she accepts the position.

Alastair de Grey, the Duke of Marwick, has been holed up inside his bedroom since the secrets of his dead wife came out. Those secrets have turned Alastair into a very angry and unhappy man. When the new housekeeper keeps butting in where she doesn't belong, he doesn't know what to think.

Olivia keeps goading Alastair so that she can finally get access to his papers, but he never leaves his room. All the time that Olivia spends with Alastair is having an unwanted side effect for both of them.

Can the Duke fight his attraction for his new housekeeper? Will Olivia find the evidence she needs to save her life?

I absolutely loved this story. I liked Olivia when I was introduced to her in That Scandalous Summer. Her sarcasm just struck a chord with me. I really like how the author had us learn how much this couple had in common while Olivia was trying to annoy the Duke enough to get him out of his rooms. Olivia (and the reader) had heard some things about the Duke from her former employer (in the previous book), but it wasn't until she forced herself into his life that the real image of the Duke came to life.

I've not read any other of this author's books except those in these series, but they were enough for me to go seek out her other novels. I can't wait to see what else she has in store for this series.

An Accidental Affair by Heather Boyd

An Accidental Affair by Heather Boyd.

This is book 4 in the Distinguished Rogues series, but has characters from Hunting the Hero as the H/H and secondary characters.

Arabella Lawson, Lady Farnsworth, has come to London to find a lover after an unfulfilled marriage. While chaperoning her niece during her first season, Arabella is hoping to find a kind lover to rid her of her innocence. Unfortunately, her unruly niece has kept her on her toes and hasn't left much time for search for that perfect person.

On one of her many searches for her wayward niece, Arabella falls into one of Lord Rothwell's assignations. Merrick Bishop, the Earl of Rothwell, can't believe that he has Lady Farnsworth in his arms. What must she think of him now?

Arabella's brother in law is going to force her to remarry. With no family of her own, she turns to Merrick for help.  Merrick can't believe his luck. As his friendship with Arabella grows, so do the secret feelings he has felt for her.  Can he convience Arabella to take a second chance at marriage?

I really enjoyed this story.  Merrick is suppose to have such a bad reputation, but the fact that he has taken in all of his father's illegitimate children and given them jobs shows that there is much more to the man than we first thought. He also thought so much of Arabella, that he didn't push her in anyway towards something intimate.  Although at times, I just wanted to tell him to go for it!

This is my first book by this author and I will definitely be back for more.

No Ordinary Mistress by Robyn DeHart

No Ordinary Mistress by Robyn DeHart.

This is the Masquerading Mistresses Novella 1.

Emma Masterson is one of the few female spies in England.  She will do anything for her country and can't believe that she has to play the part of mistress to her former partner. After their disastrous alliance, she has been working on her own to gather intelligence information. Because of the murder she witnessed, her boss thinks she needs protection. What better cover than to be the mistress of the man that can protect her as well as work as her partner to solve the case?

Remington Hawthorne, the Earl of Latham, hasn't been able to get Emma out of his mind since they severed their partnership serving the Crown.  It's his idea to make Emma his mistress as a way to protect her, but will she need protection from him?

This was a great introduction to a new series by Robyn DeHart.  Even though it was a novella, I thought that the author did an excellent job of developing a plot without it seeming rushed. I look forward to more stories from this series!

To rescue her was to rescue his own soul.

On a cold Parisian night, Vicomte Aleksender de LefËvre forges an everlasting bond with a broken girl during her darkest hour, rescuing her from a life of abuse and misery. Tormented by his own demons, he finds his first bit of solace in sheltering little Sofia Rose.

But when Aleksender is drawn away by the Franco-Prussian war, the seasons pass. And in that long year, Sofia matures into a stunning young womanóa dancer with an understanding of devotion and redemption far surpassing her age.

Alongside his closest friend, Aleksender returns home to find that ìhomeî is gone, replaced by revolution, bloodshed, betrayalóand a love always out of reach. Scarred inside and out, heís thrust into a world of sensuality and violenceóa world in which all his hours have now grown dark, and where only Sofia might bring an end to the winter in his heart.

Inspired by the 1871 Paris Commune, The Frost of Springtime is a poignant tale of revolution, redemption, and the healing power of love.

The heat of their bodies mingled as one. With each breath, Aleksender drank in the sweet essence of his beloved ward. His mind swam with unorthodox visions and desires. He inclined his head, lost to the power of her nearness, entranced by everything that was Sofia.

"Alek, my Alek..."

Each word infused Aleksender with a delicious and undeniable warmth. Intoxicated by roses and wintertime, he found it difficult to speak, difficult to think. Breathless, he swallowed and met the haunting depths of her eyes.

ìPlease,î she dreamily murmured, ìI want you to kiss me againÖî

Praise for The Frost of Springtime

ìI am astonished at this being Rachel L. Demeterís debut work, for in form and style, it is very much a tour de force. A riveting story of love and courage in the aftermath of a brutal war, the author brilliantly juxtaposes the hazing splendor of French nobility and the impassioned elegance of two people in love, despite all the worldís oppositions. The title is, in a sense, a representation of change: the beginning of a new spring with La Belle …poque and the transition into a new era, for the world and our protagonists. The wistful loveliness of the setting paints a picture of a crying France, blending in with the dynamic romance perfectly. Or rather, it does not merely blend in the background as much as glitters like the brightest jewel, shining with a vibrancy that makes one want to relieve the halcyon days of grand old Paris. I was captivated by the setting, the lush writing of Rachel L. Demeter, and the subtle expressiveness of the characters, which all compelled me to research more of the historical background, of the 1871 Paris Commune, through which this story is made more infinitely dearer.î ñ Buried Under Romance

"We are in awe. The Frost of Springtime is a MUST HAVE! Despite that we loved the true facts, we fell instantly in love with the story. It was dark, emotionally devastating, and sensual. The innocence between the two main characters was beautiful and their love grew so strong throughout the story with such grace. One of us even cried while reading The Frost of Springtime. We loved the cover, we loved the writing style, and we adored the characters. We fell in love, really hard." - Divas Book Blog

"This novel is intricately detailed and wonderfully written! Opening with a heartbreaking scene, I was immediately drawn to the story of Aleksender and his Sofia. Of course, as the story moved on, other enchanting characters helped to make this poignant book complete. The author has blended historical facts with fiction skillfully, and presented several narratives flawlessly. It ís beautiful! I loved it!" - Romancebookworm's Reviews

"I absolutely love this book. The Frost of Springtime shows how love and tragedy go hand in hand and that love can actually be more powerful than anything. I have found that most books do not hit this point right on the nail like this one does. It's a Historical Romance and let me just tell you this is one book I couldn't put down." - Magic Within The Pages

"WOW!! The Frost of Springtime is a powerful, epic love story unlike anything Iíve ever read before. The emotional and visual/sensory depth is astounding. I felt Aleksender and Sofiaís connection from beginning to end. Aleksenderís path to healing was at times breathtaking and heartbreaking. This is a hero who loves his woman with every last breath, every fiber of his beingÖ and thereís nothing he wouldnít do for her. AMAZING cast of secondary characters as wellÖ a 'villain' who actually leaves you morally torn! Beautifully written (loved the vivid imagery and descriptions!), dark, unusual, rich with history, epic scope, and a soul deep love that only comes once in a lifetime... Brava!!!" - Sivonna, an advanced reader

Loving Lord Ash by Sally MacKenzie

Loving Lord Ash by Sally MacKenzie.

This is book 3 in the Duchess of Love series.

Kit, the Marquis of Ashton, has been estranged from his wife since their wedding day. He has finally decided that he must make a decision about his marriage. When he arrives at her home, he finds her in the arms of another man, who just happens to be naked.

Jess has finally made the decision to confront her husband about their marriage when he shows up at her studio. Unfortunately, he finds her in the arms of her naked friend.

That is not how she wanted their first meeting to go.  Of course, Ashton storms off but Jess' s friend convinces her to go after him to see if they can make a go of their marriage.
Ashton and Jess agree to go to London as they believe that no one will be there. Wanting to spend their time alone trying to make their marriage work, they are surprised to see the whole family has come to town.

With the whole family around, can Ashton and Jess make their marriage a real one?

If you've read the other stories in the series, you were probably just as excited as I was to read Ashton and Jess's story. I was a little surprised at Jess's background and how the two of them became married, but MacKenzie did a wonderful job of tying up the series.

One of the things I liked best with this series, including this title, was that the author had many surprises in store for the reader. One sign that I really like a story is that I will stay up much later than I should be to finish it. That happened with all four books in this series.  I was already up way past when I should have been sleeping when I finished book 2. But I just couldn't go to be without picking up and starting Loving Lord Ash.  The storyline between all the books, just had me wanting more! Bravo, Sally MacKenzie!

Passionately Yours by Cara Elliott.

Passionately Yours by Cara Elliott.

This is book 3 in the Hellions of High Street series (Book 1 and Book 2)

Caro Sloane is finding herself at loose ends now that her two sisters have gotten themselves married. She and her mother are staying in Bath where she meets her new friend Isobel. Isobel and Caro are returning from an outing when they are attacked by ruffians. They are soon rescued by none other than Alec McClellan, the Scot that she exchanged verbal barbs with while at a house party.

Alec McClellan can't believe his half-sister's new friend is none other than Caro Sloane.  He has closed off his heart after being heartbroken by his wife and she seems to be the only one who can put a dent in it.  He is trying to find out who is a traitor to his cause and doesn't have time for the feelings that she provokes.

Will Alec and Caro find proof they need to capture the traitor and will Alec finally open his heart to love again?

I was eagerly awaiting Caro's story and hoping that Alec would be her HEA. Cara Elliot did not disappoint me!  I loved the bickering between the two of them. It has me laughing out loud at their antics.  I also loved the added mystery in the story and the fact that Caro was not afraid to get involved and take some of the sleuthing into her own hands (much to Alec's dismay!) The conclusion to this series was very satisfying! I would recommend all three books to any lover of historical romance.

Desperately Seeking Suzanna by Elizabeth Michels

Desperately Seeking Suzanna by Elizabeth Michels.

This is book 2 in the Tricks of the Ton series.

Sue Green sneaks into a country masquerade party with her sister and cousins.  Her cousins decide to give this wallflower a make-over before entering the ball. Trying to get the courage to enter the ball with her new look, Sue over indulges with champagne.

Sue decides she needs a new name to go with her new look and chooses Suzanna, a lady with no inhibitions. Making their way to the ball, "Suzanna" decides to high-kick her way down the stairs. Unfortunately, she kicks Lord Holden Ellis breaking his nose.  Even with a broken nose, Holden is smitten with "Suzanna" and talks her into helping him into his bedroom to clean up.

Things heat up, but "Suzanna" and Holden are interrupted. They make their way to the ball and enjoy a lovely dance. Holden leaves to get some refreshments. Unfortunately, Sue's mother finds her and makes her take off her "Suzanna" enhancements.  She makes it back to meet Holden, but he doesn't recognize her.  Heartbroken, she fleas back to her cousins' home.

Holden is upset with losing "Suzanna", but find out she will be in London soon.  He travels back to London much sooner than he had planned. He must find his "Suzanna."

At the first ball back in London, Sue is shocked when she sees Holden.  Her shock soon turns to disappointment when Holden asks for her help in find his "Suzanna."

Will Holden ever see that his "Suzanna" is his friend Sue that he finds himself being more and more intrigued with at every meeting?

I give an A++ to Elizabeth Michels for the second book in the Tricks of the Ton series.  While reading the first book in the series, Must Love Dukes, I had already grown to love the character of Holden.

I loved the interaction that Holden had with Sue.  I always love a feisty heroine, and Michels didn't disappoint. Michels has a way of bringing you into the story and making you feel like the characters are your best friends.  My heart broke right along with Sue's every time Holden didn't see what was right there before him and it was in my throat when Holden thought that Sue was in danger.

Elizabeth Michels is an author that will be at the top of this genre and and can't wait to see what else she has in store for us!

Sapphires Are an Earl's Best Friend by Shana Galen

Sapphires Are an Earl's Best Friend by Shana Galen.

This is book three in the Jewels of the Ton Series.

Lily Dawson, the Countess of Charm, is on a mission for the Crown.  She needs to get close to the Duke of Ravenscroft to see if he is the man selling the names of undercover agents to the enemy. The only problem is that she is in love with his son, Andrew who happens to be in love with her married best friend.

Andrew Booth-Payne, the Earl of Darlington is disgusted that his so-called friend is trying to seduce his father. He will do anything to stop her, including a kidnapping.

During a house party at the family seat, things start turning up missing. After asking a few questions, Lily starts to suspect that Lucifer (a villain previously introduced in the first book of the series) is hiding out in the area waiting for the right moment to strike.

When Andrew catches Lily looking in places she shouldn't be, she finally confesses her real motives for attaching herself to the Duke of Ravenscroft.  This leads to a wild adventure that you will be sure to enjoy!

Having "met" Andrew in the other two stories, I wasn't sure to to expect with this one. He was so obsessed with Lily's friend that I wondered how the author would turn his feelings around to Lily.  I should have know better! Shana Galen has a gift for story-telling that puts her at the top of my list of authors.

We see a little of Lily's "work" in the previous novel and it was great to see how that came about. Why would the government choose a courtesan as a spy?  Knowing the other two Jewels stories, I knew it would be a hard luck story but was surprised at an unexpected twist.

One thing I am coming to enjoy in a series, is a mystery that travels throughout it. The mystery of the person trying to sell the name of the agents started in book one and came to a very satisfactory, if surprising, conclusion.  I would highly recommend reading all three books together.  I read them all in about 5 days and was not disappointed!

You can pre-order this book, which goes on sale March 4, at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iTunes.
